Looking at buying a 97 6.5

There some videos of how to do it on youtube. You'll need the injection pump, and intake manifold gaskets. It may or may not need an injection pump. Could be as simple as needing a FSD/PMD.

Not a bad job. Pull intake, pull lines, pull oil filler tube to get at gear bolts, rotate engine to get all bolts, pull IP, line up new IP drive to old one, F it up and remove and reinstall pump till drive gear is aligned. Be careful with the drive bolts as droping one means you will have to find it and pull the water pump etc to get there. I dropped a clamp in the intake last IP I swapped...
Reassemble with new intake gaskets and check for leaks. The lines do not have to be removed from the injectors, just the IP.

The owner had the truck towed to 2 different shops and they both told him that it was the ip. Either way the truck is a good deal. Thanks for the help!

 I resemble that remark!

Very good deal especially if it isn't IP which it probably is not, get it & we can help you decide if IP really is the problem, most folks including GM techs don't have what it takes to diagnose a bad IP,
