Runs so much better now. Nice to have my old truck back.

I was amazed at all the junk that came out. This was between the filter and LP. Used compressed air to blow the line at back of intake where the line has the rubber hose connected to the filter.

The bucket was cleaned before I blew out the line. All the crap blew up on the sides to. There was a big hunk that looked like cardboard.
I could only do 35MPH before it would start bucking. I changed the filter first and it was nasty. Thought it was fixed but I was wrong. After playing with the LP and not getting anywhere I thought I would try and blow out the line. I could tell right away by the sound it made something had blown clear.
:coal: I can make smoke again.

I do have a theory. This truck is relitivly new to me (miles wise) have had it for two years, but only put 500 or so miles on it in that time. Since I have been driving it more latly I have been using Stanadyne and Lucas additives to the fuel. Im thinking all the junk that may have been on the walls of the lines flaked off, I don't know?

I just r&r'ed the sending unit in the tank not long ago and it all looked clean even inside the tank.

Hmm. A couple of years ago I started using commercially-produced biodiesel in the rigs. I started out slow, at 10-20% dilution with standard #2 diesel. Over several tankfuls I eventually ramped it to 99%. Changed the fuel filters a couple of times - they were BLACK and yucky!

However, no 'chunks' came off the lines. Now I tend to put a gallon or two in every tankful, mostly for lubricity reasons, especially with the ULSD fuel these days. It seems to work well. The fuel filters (after 2 changes for each vehicle) aren't coming up black anymore, they look pretty normal in terms of how dirty they get before changing.

I think your theory makes sense, and I'm glad you got her back on the road!

I don't think it's veg oil. I run striaght veg oil in my 93 and have never seen something like that. It looked like layers of very thin cardboard. Almost like part of a filter element, but I don't know how it would have got there as I do not have a filter (yet) before that point.
I am going to be installing a filter and better lift pump when I get a chance.

Maybe the PO blew air back to the tank and he blew back between the filter and IP. I've seen people that smart.:smile5:

Does your filter manager still have its 'last ditch screen?' maye a filter broke down on someone and pieces made it in.

BTW, thanks for your posts/info/research man. I look forward to reading your threads.

On re-read realized it was between mgr and LP, not mgr and IP....
-Disregard. But didn't delete cuz of your props :)

I'm slow, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Are you saying PO could have blown air in the line from the filter to the IP? The short run under the intake?
If yes what would that have done?

I've seen a post on here maybe it was FTB thread? that showed a picture of the screen you are refering to. To be honest I did not look or notice one.

Thanks for the kind words.

OK, this is driving me crazy - I know I've come across this before, but I can't yet remember where! When I saw the pics, it looked familiar - when you said "very thin cardboard" it really, really seemed familiar. I gotta keep thinkin'.

My initial thought was junk built up over time on the bottom of the tank, but then you said the tank "was clean". I'm just curious - when you looked in the tank, were you able to see a clean surface, or did it just look smooth? The reason I ask is that if this junk was laying on the tank bottom, it could appear to look clean as it would settle relatively flat and smooth. Did you happen to scrape the bottom of the tank with a tool or something and see if it came back clean?

If I may, I think NVW meant someone blew into the line from the "filtered fuel" side of the filter. However, I would think that as that stuff was now dislodged and loose, the fuel coming up through the lines over time would of just pushed it back to the filter again.

Either way, this is certainly interesting - I wonder how many more of us may have this situation?

When blowing the line between the tank and filter we would blow back to the tank pre filter. I was suggesting someone took the fuel line off the IP and blew back to the tank through the filter mngr. c/w filter in place.

AH! I told you I was slow. I see now. I guess if someone did do that it could have been chunks of the filter that blew off due to the pressure.

Now that I think about it it looks like layers of sediment. I'm sure that must be what it was and it dislodged from the lines somowhere. Its possibile it came from the tank, but it did look clean.
