So I just completed half of my 4000+ mile journey with my wife and three kids belted in the eclb. We left California and headed for Indiana for Christmas with the family but by the time we hit Las Vegas we still had very little heat coming out of the vents. My truck will not climb over 170 degrees unless it is being worked, and in the winter it just plain won't get hot. So at a fuel station in Utah I asked the attendant if he had any card board boxes and he kindly pointed me to a semi trailer full of boxes. So with my trusty Gerber I went to work and found a box just big enough to cover the grill of my truck. After that all went great. Temps rose to around 195 and hot air was blast get out of the vents. Which made my wife much happier, which in turn made the 32 hour road trip much nicer.
Does anyone else have this problem and if so where is a good place to purchase a winter front that looks classier than my ,Arby's keep frozen, card board stuck to the front of my Truck

x2 on the new t stat. Do you have single or dual, and what are you running now? And if you (or anyone else) is having problems near Vegas get a hold of me, I will come help if at all possible.

94 should = Single T-Stats. Can't remember if you've changed over to duals or not.
X 3 and counting on the new or proper T-Stats, even in the Twenty-Nine Palms area. Cheaper and much more aesthetically pleasing than the Cardboard option being run now. If you've got issues in Utah on the way back, you've got my number...don't hesitate.

Yes I still have the single t-stat. I will be on the return trip after the new year and may need to hit you up Paveltolz, as we will be leaving 29 soon and won't be able to have you over for pizza on your trips out anymore.

In a few hours I will be starting the return trip. For now the cardboard is still in place. I will be addressing the t-stat once I get home and have tools.

Just leaving Denver. Will you be on 70 at all tomorrow in your white truck. If so look for me and we can wave and blow smoke as we pass.

Looks like you'll be north of Houston? I have Tstats in stock if you want to swing in?

Didn't see this till tonight, 2 Jan. Sorry, white truck is in pieces parts. Rolling in the Passat instead. Down to Kimgman yesterday, Phoenix today. 43Mpg on winter blend fuel at 75mph...loving the prices in Phoenix, $275 a gal for #2 diesel.

Linking up with Warwagon & 635 Saturday morning.

Safe journey the rest of the way home. I-15 is clear of snow all the way out of UT.

End of the story and the begging of a new thread. Well it didn't make it. Fiarley certain that the crankshaft broke. So I will start a new thread on the junkyard engine I found and if it is junk or gold.

I was just a bit past Las Vegas when the truck that had been running better than perfect of 1800 miles started vibrating, banging and clanking. Sounded horrible so I shut it off and now it won't start. I checked the usual things thinking maybe I just broke a starter bolt or some ting funny like that and the only thing I can find externally is the crankshaft pull has been beating against the bolts that hold it on. No clue how long that has be going on. But from the sound it made and the way it was running at the end I am sure it has a broken crankshaft. Will post both new motor and blow motor picks once I start the new thread

Yes we made it home around 0200 in the morning thanks to a friend of a friend whom I had never met before. Thank God for good hardworking Americans with nice new Cummins, who are willing to not only drive 121 miles out into the middle of nowhere to pick you and your children up but also use a tow strap and drive under 35 MPH the entire way back home. I am in his debt.
