I installed an Edge last saturday and my truck is messing up already. Anytime I get on it, it shifts really hard a couple times then looses alot of power. There are no check engine lights and I dont think there is anyway to check codes with my Edge. It also seems to idle a little rougher than it did before the chip. 109K on it.

you need to check your pins in the plugs... both on the truck harness and the edge...but mainly the truck harness... take a long nose pliers and gently pull on each pin...you'll feel some pins give a little and they will lock/slip back into place...see if that helps...

Well i checked the pins and it didnt make a difference, i also checked the codes and nothing came up. The chip was on for a few days before it went bad. Im not sure if its going into limp mode or not some times it has power and sometimes u can put ur foot to the floor and it does nothing. Any more suggestions

Obvious question but when was the last time you changed your fuel filter? I know you've had alot of cold weather like we have and your filter could be waxed.

I was going to suggest the fuel filter as well, but not because of the weather. Just because you obviously were flowing a lot more fuel with the edge. I would try the fuel filter first, leave it stock and see if it does it again. If it gets better stock, then try the edge again.

It still does it with the edge disconnected. I think the filter was changed right before i bought it 3 months ago, the fuel filter life says 100% but im sure its wrong. I noticed that the slip on the edge was reading up to 75% before i took it off. I have a bad feeling the tranny is about out of it.

Yeah, well the edge thing could be wrong...but if someone else had a programmer on it before it's possible. Judging by the truck it sure don't look like it woulda been beat though. Looked kinda like an old mans truck when you got it...just like mine. Mine was much worse though. lol

How many miles have you put on the truck so far? I know you drive a fair amount. If you get even one bad tank of fuel your filter can get clogged. Change it out. That reminds me...I'm overdue for one too. The general consensus of when to change it seems to be from 10-15k miles per filter. I used to do it every 15k...but I've been cutting mine open to look and the last one at 15k was completely black. I plan on doing it every 10k now. Has you dad ever done his?

Thats what i was thinking but it does have a gooseneck ball on it so maybe the old owner did a fair amount of towing with it.

Iv put 8k on it since november. Yeah hes had to change his at least twice since august but hes put on 30k probably.

Is it alright to bring it to the dealer with the edge in but not hooked up? Its got 110k on it so im sure its off warrenty. I think ill just have them throw there computer on it and see if they can figure out exactly whats goin wrong with it.

That's a pretty expensive way to find out you need a new fuel filter if that's what it is... unless they won't charge you to plug in the Tech2. They usually do.

Yeah I know but im down at school 200 miles from home and I really dont have time or the tools to do it myself here and i dont really know any other reliable shops in the area. West lafayette, IN if anyone knows any other good shops in the area.

the edge slip is only accurate when your converter is locked. other than that there is a good amount of slip because that is how the torque converter is designed.

the hard shifting could be caused by a fuel filter, but is likely the fact that it hasnt learned the new power. it takes a long time if you dont reset the taps. and if the loss of power is limiting the engine to 2000 rpm it is most likely a fuel pressure issue. it wont always set a check engine light.

Well glad it was something simple. That's what all of us are here for... to help out. Over time we all have a tendency to think the worst when something goes wrong on our truck. It pays to start with the simplest things first.

And never forget that:
"If it has tits or wheels, eventually you will have trouble with it"

I lied again its still messing up. Dealership said its the fuel pressure relief valve. They also said they have to reprogram the computer because it wasnt turning on the check engine light and there were 7 codes thrown on it. Anyone else have problems with this when they start turning them up or is this just a fluke thing?

They want $700 to fix it and $300 just for the part, seems pretty steep. How hard is this to do myself?
