What does limp mode feel like? Or supposed to be like?

The Optical Sensor is the thing on the top of the IP right, and if I unplug it from the IP it should be in limp mode, and that won't cause any harm?

I got a new chip I was testing out and I get terrible performance with it, hard shifting, high RPMs, thought maybe it was always in limp mode, like it was for a different model IP maybe.

Thanks,
Tom

Depends what makes it go there, one mode puts you all way back to idle like a communication loss to PCM, and other one like you get with boost out of PCMs expected range/boost curve and PCM ain't happy about it, you get a max fuel rate of 50 ish mm^3 that one you find by mashing APP to fllor and while acceleration is there is isn't as crisp, a sluggish acceleration, EGT is much slower to rise, you have to be looking on a scanner to see it, when you turn off key it resets, also bad MAP or baro input can put you there as well.

Unplugging the optic will limp it and put you at a retarded max fuel and timing, not sure on values I've never tried to collect data when that happens, you can run that way for a while but it won't be fun driving that way, it's intended to get you home so you can do something about it, sort of like a donut spare tire, it will get you to a help destination, but don't run it like that any longer than necessary.
