Greetings all,

quick question, should my lift pump start running the moment I turn my key to the on/start postion? Mine does not, it won't run until I build up oil pressure then it pumps like crazy.

I believe some LP harnesses are wired with a relay to the OPS when it comes up to pressure it will turn on...not sure which LP and harness you are using, but this may be the case...

1995 OBD1 controlled by the OPS. NO Oil pressure, No lift pump. I believe later OBD2 models are also controlled by the ecm and give(I forgot how much) a small run when cranking. You can manaulally run it by jumping pins in teh OBD1 port under the dash. forget which pins but think it's in the LP diagnistics sticky.

I know some aftermarket ones operate that way as well(kennedy's and a couple others IIRC)...I didn't know if he was talking stock or aftermarket...he did not specify...

On your vintage, the lift pump comes on during engine start, then it runs by the OPS when you release the key. Put your truck in drive( the starter won't run ) and turn the key to start. You will hear the LP.

Pepp, you need to add a 6.5TD to the stable.

I'm actually considering doing just that...

there is a very nice(pristine) 6.5 burb near my house that never seems to move...maybe the owner is so frustrated by his never getting it fixed just right that they would be willing to let it go for a great price...

I'm going to approach them soon...you never know:smile5:
