New oil pan last year. My drain plug is weeping :(. When I change the oil anything extra I can do to prevent this? I tried tightening it, but I don't want to overtorque the new pan bunghole

If it like mine your plug is recessed with what looks to be an O-Ring installed. You'd do better to try to R and R that ring. IMHO with this style plug a help section rubber lined washer whilst it may work would not mechanically be appropriate.

I have never tried but there is a chance, though I doubt it, that the original sealing ring is molded in. If it is an O-ring it should hook out fairly easily. If you have to start digging at it it may well be molded and you should stop and consider replacing it as a whole unit.

Cheers

I'm not even sure there is a washer on it?? Unless its recessed in on the inside. Either way, changing the oil today, and am getting to the bottom of it. I'll see whats on there, and maybe toss an external washer on it. We'll see.

I don't remember paying much more attention when installing the pan. All I remember is removing the drain plug and thinking to myself after I installed the Pan that I should have checked functionalitiy of the drain plug before installing the pan to make sure it wasn't fubar!

Had the same problem with my pickup. There was an old worn out copper crush washer on the drain plug. I pried that one off and put a new one on before i reinstalled the drain plug. No more leaks.

I guess my new pan came with just an aluminum crush washer, which was also half painted black.

I replaced it with the rubber/metal one suggested above. So far no drippy! :)
