I have been getting a temp below tsat setting code lately. Temps seem normal for my truck but never over 175 on a 70* day cruising and usually 140-150 on 30* days.

Any certain brand of tstat I should get? Maybe a new coolant sensor too?

Either the dealer or rockauto and buy AC DELCO. The aftermarket ones are NOT created equal, and they are lucky to hold temp right out of the box. Hang onto your but as the last set I bought at dealer trade cost from GM was almost $70 for the pair(list was around $100 IIRC).

Geeze! Once again I say, EVERYTHING is more expensive on a dmax.

Yep, they aint cheap. You can buy the cheapos down at AZ for about $30, but they don't work for crap. And NAPAS aint any better. Put in a few and every single one of them won't hold temp at an idle. Put OEM stats in and no more problems.

Interesting Mike. I see that RA sells both the 180 and 185 degree thermostats. I wonder which ones are stock OEM? I'd go with the 180 degree set.

Hmm, I thought they had 190-195's. They explain why mine likes to cruise at 176 a lot.

Leroy, let me know what you come up with and I'll get yours if the price is close.

They use both a 180 and a 185. The rear stat is a 180 and has no bypass blocker on it, the front stat is a 185 and has the disc on the bottom to block the bypass off at roughly 212. Mcrat used to sell some lower temp stats, but I see no real reason to run them myself unless your running an all out racing engine.

One of my worries was my truck was running cold enough that it was causing a decrease in MPG (its been tapering off) because my truck doesnt get warm enough in the winter. I know there are 6.5ers (leroy iirc) that saw an MPG jump going from 180 to a 195.

If everybody else is getting better mpg's with the same T Stats then I have other issues I guess. Last winter my MPG's never came back up in the spring and they continued to drop on average slowly but surely. Front end checks out, new wheel bearings, fresh amsoil in all running gear, Mobile 1 5/40 in engine, newish airfilter, fuel filter at 5K, and keeping a pretty light foot.

OK tring to avoid a "learning curve" here so, Are the two part #s you posted for a front and rear tstat? I think Ferm is saying Dmax runs two?

OK cool I'll see what I can find. I was'int sure if he was listing the app or a choice of temps.

Yes, they run 2 different stats. A 185 with a blocker in the front, and a 180 without a blocker but with air bleeds in the rear.

Rock auto is very tough to beat. I won't be able to even match their price on those part #s My cost is higher by a few dollars.

Just have to remember that they don't provide your level of customer service and to me that's darn well worth paying a bit extra for. And you have to be careful paying for their expedited shipping (experience speaking here). Too much fine print. I was doing head gaskets on my son's ooh-ooh-Subaru last Spring and wanted to get the job done in a hurry so paid the price. The parts came out of several locations. The fine print allowed them to not expedite a couple of items so the whole job got held up anyway. Really feel that I got burned. Called them up and asked for help and was told in so many words that I was an idiot. Couldn't argue I guess, but was only the idiot with their expedited shipping once.
