Anybody take ther intake heater out and plug the hole for better air flow? It looks like its a pretty restrictive piece, but not totally sure if its worth the time and effort. Anybody do it and have any results positive or neg??

you will need it disable the intake heater codes it will set...I'm not sure if there is another programmer(predator etc...) that will do that...maybe someone with one of the other programmers will chime in on their ability to do it or not...

Maybe

I have removed my intake heater for less restriction. It's easy to do with EFI Live, disable P0540 & P0543 mils to show, no mils. I 'm not able to tell if this helped with gaining more HP but I look at it this way, every little tip will eventually add up for a gain in HP, weather you feel it in the seat or not. And like most Tech Tips there are Opinions.:smile5:

Do the codes come from a temp sensor past the heater or do they come from the heater being removed. Cause if it comes from the heater being removed then I'll figure a way to make the truck think its still there and working... maybe by moving it out and modifying it a lil

P0540 mils reads: intake air heater circuit
P0543 mils reads: intake air heater A circuit open

To me that would mean that it senses just the circuit and reads the temp at a different area, like the "intake air intake temperature" (IAT) sensor, which would be P0112 and P0113 mil, but I could be wrong. :nonod:

The ECM monitors the circuit for continuity when the intake heater isn't on as the heater will read an almost dead short to ground, and then it reads 12 volts + when the realy is on. You could probably use a resistor and make it act as the heater to get rid of the codes without EFILIVE.

I was just thinking that a light bulb would make a good simulator for the intake heater circuit. It would show the continuity to ground when it isn't powered, but would allow the 12 volts to be seen when it is applied.
