LB7 Engine price

Call Dallas County Auto Salvage USA in Grand-Prairie 972-262-5655 / 866-794-3052
they have one for $1500

Thanks.

I am waiting for the dealer to tell me what the source of the coolant leak is but I have this gut feel it is not going to be good. I have a post in the LB7 section about the issue.

Anyone have any idea what the bold part of the info below means?

6.6L turbo diesel (VIN 1, 8th digit), Fed, opt NF2
6.6L turbo diesel (VIN 1, 8th digit), Calif
6.6L turbo diesel (VIN 1, 8th digit), Fed, opt NF4

Here is a link to a used part search.

The LB7 motors use a few different parts based on what market it was going to and the model year. The option codes listed above will be in your glove box if no one ripped the label out. You look to see which one you have NF2, NF4 or if it a california truck to get the right motor. The short blocks are all the same but from there up are where the differences are.

I'm looking at a long block right now to start an upper rebuild and just swap it out then rebuild the upper of the one I pull for a spare...

Thanks Diesel Tech.

I have found several engines in TX if I need one.

The dealer did not find the leak because it did not leak while it was there. I am going to watch it a day or two and see what develops. My feeling is that I have a cracked head or block and since it doesn't seem to show up around the heads that is may be a crack in the around where the trans bolts to the eng. The fluid seems to be coming out of the weep hole on the lower edge of the trans eng bolt up surface (bell housing).

It is strange that the only time it leaks is after sitting overnight in the cold. Although it was outside last night and didn't leak.

Stop leak is looking more like and option for a while.

Actually I am referring to the GM product. I used it on a head gasket leak. The dealer recommended we try that rather than replacing the gasket at that point. It worked for about 100K miles.

Let me know what you are talking about and I will look into it.

maybe a seal on the back side of the block is leaking. iirc the engine has crossover holes in the back that get covered up with plates and gaskets. also there is freeze plugs.

I wondered if there are other places other than the freeze plugs but didn't know if there was.

Last night it was in the lower 20's and no leak. Cold seemed to have been the key to when it leaked. I have no answer. Maybe the Lord fixed it for me. If so then I say thank you Lord.

always a possiblity! interesting mine was low on coolant too. topped it off and going to keep an eye on it before I get worried. Good luck with the truck though!

Pepp, two motors one truck?!

SFC, I used to GM AC/Delco cooling tabs on 2 6.2s that were losing coolant. Both stoped leaking and held till the day I sold them(years later) Only downside is on occasion the stuff could cause the following problems.
1)wipe out the water pump(rare)
2)clog up the heater core(This happended to me)
3)clog up the rad.
Again these side effects are rare(hmm sounds like a Merck Commercial). I'd give it a try. ONe of my 6.2 was burning collant so bad it was not drivable. 15 mins after putting in the tabs it cleared up and was still holding 2 yrs later when I sold it.

I used them in this engine when I had a visible head gasket leak a few thousand miles ago. They stopped it for about 100K and then I had to have the gaskets replaced.

This time the leak comes and goes. It leaked again last week one time and none since then. I guess it would not hurt to use them again and see where it goes from there. It has really been baffling.
