I hope this info is OK to share here, I posted a question about this in what I thought was the correct directory, but did not get many replies last week or so.

Last Friday I installed a new JVC HD radio & Kicker speakers in the Tahoe. I purchased the entire setup with adaptors & all needed wiring harness’s plugs etc from Crutchfield.

The installation went smooth & the hardest part was unplugging the switches on the door panels for removal.

When I purchased this Tahoe it came with an aftermarket in dash Sony that IMO was junk, the CD player would skip at the slightest bump & the left channel volume was erratic.

It has been many years since I have purchased & installed an auto in dash state of the art player. This new JVC had built in High Def tuner. Along with a bunch of other options that I am not even sure I understand yet. I was not even aware of the variety of FM stations that offer HD radio now days, nor the excellent sound quality that you get from the HD prod cast.

So bottom line for about $300 I have a new HD tuner & some ass kicking tunes in the Tahoe, thought it was a pleasing / positive enough experience to share here.

If anyone would like additional details just drop me a PM.

Best Regards,
Greg

Change your sig! What do you think about the HD radio? I would buy one but we don't have any channels here in BFE.:nonod:

Do you have to pay a subscription for HD radio?

nope .. just buy the receiver.

It utilizes the frequecies that were freed up when TV went digital.

We can also thank that digital change for the 4g wireless internet.

I don't buy these things until they are the norm and dirt cheap.

HD radio = satellite radio?..........Or like HD TV crisp clear pic and audio?

Satellite radio is great so many choices, generes, styles, etc and very little commercials

BTW, I listen to AM talk news radio.....1010 WINS......Jeez that station got to be twice as old as me.:eek::)

HD radio is not satellite radio. HD radio is nice but I would never trade it for my satellite radio.

HD radio is a digital radio station broadcast, it offers a nice clean sound but requires a special receiver to get it. If I were to replace my radio/DVD/satellite system I would look into HD radio, but without better speakers and better sound proofing I do not think it would benefit me too much.

My problem with terrestrial radio stations is I drive too many miles in a trip (usually 600 to 800 miles a day) and I would spend most of my time searching for a station I like only to drive out of range. That's where Sat radio wins, it is never out of range.

Enjoy the HD, Thanks for putting the thought of better speakers in my head, it's only money! :)

I'll try to take a pic of the radio in the dash tonight when I get home. It's only day 3 for me using it, many things to learn about it's functions yet...so far I LOVE it, makes a difference when you spend 2 hrs+ in yr vehicle every day for yr comute to work!

Some Mother F*cKing Coc* Sucker finally invaded my home PC lap top with a virus Sunday, I can not complain really not bad I managed to run it for about 3yrs on the last load. Had my son reloading that last night, so hopefully it will be ready & able to load a pic here tonight. I was surfing last night with my tiny little acer PC but man it sure ain't the same. I'm too old & that succer is too small for my tired eyes to use for very long.

Here are a couple pics I promised along with some info on the model I selected.

JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69 CD receiver. Its built-in tuner lets you dial in the enhanced sound quality of digital AM/FM stations, giving you FM sound that approaches CD quality, plus AM that sounds like traditional FM. You can also adjust the receiver's display colors to match your dash lighting, plus you'll get a rock-solid two-year warranty to boot.

iTunes® tagging and iPod® control

Use the convenient front-panel USB input to connect and control your iPod® or iPhone®, and speed your way through songs and playlists with the KD-AHD69's controls. You can also switch over to the iPod's controls if your passengers prefer the hands-on approach. You'll see song and artist info bright and clear on the receiver's 2-line display.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Hands-on Research" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

When you're listening to an HD Radio station, just tap the dedicated button to "tag" a song you like. The next time you connect your iPod to the computer, you'll be prompted to buy your tagged tunes from the iTunes store.
Play your digital music files

This versatile stereo will handle all your CDs and recordable discs, as well as discs or or thumb drives you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You can connect a portable satellite radio to the auxiliary input, or install a JVC satellite radio tuner permanently. The KD-AHD69 also works with JVC's Bluetooth® adapter for even greater flexibility.
Sweet sound

Go ahead and turn it up. The built-in amplifier gives you plenty of clean power when you're out with your friends. An advanced digital-to-analog converter brings out all the details in your music, and you can adjust the 7-band equalizer to get the perfect sound for your vehicle.
Clean sound for your amps and subs

Two sets of 5-volt preamp outputs simplify the process of adding amps and subs to your system, while providing a clean, noise-free signal. The subwoofer output includes a handy selectable low-pass filter, and you can add just the right amount of bass with the subwoofer level control.
Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Nice, I just noticed your pictures and just realized that the 95 6.5 I just bought this summer has a radio in it that looks just like yours. When I was looking at this truck the owner said something about this nice jvc radio he put in. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time.

I bought this truck for 800 dollars for my son. I don't ride in it very much. He just came in the office and I showed him a picture of your radio and he said that is just like the one he has in his truck. I had to go out and look this one over. It looks just like yours Crankme but I have different numbers on it. Mine is probably older. But it does say hd and satalite ready. I will have to look for a hd station because I don't recall seeing that in the display. I thought it was just an ordinary radio until now. Learn something new everyday here.

Heck, makes me feel better yet about the purchase. The guy gave me reciepts for two new batteries, new 60g glows and I think it was a 300 dollar alternator. Crank thanks for the info.

Looks nice! I like the feture of being able to control your IPod from the head unit.

I also love sat radio. Sure makes long trips nice. No searching for stations.
