hey guys,

got off the phone with jrsavoie

he is having coolant loss near the firewall, hoping for a heater hose coming apart.

he was wondering if there was a reputable person or shop in the area to install a new hose, which he also needs.

He said that he was between pagosa springs and south fork on Rt 160 if I heard him correctly.

thanks guys!

ok, better news, and some more info.

he was headed from Pagosa Springs up and over wolf creek pass to South Fork the hose started leaking half way up the pass.

he was able to obtain a gallon of water from a camper, and was able to get turned around and back down to Pagosa Springs.

the camper referred him to a towing comapny that is apparently pretty reputable.

so at least he is in town and off the mountain, but I imagine he still needs a hose, and possibly an installer, depending on the 6.5L knowledge of the towing company.

I'm eight hours away but would like to know what his status is as of late or can you PM me a phone number?

Main issue was the heater "T" fitting had exceeded it's life expectancy, was cracked and leaking. When he was checking the leak source it simply fell apart. I've had days like that myself. He scored a lucky shot at a local Auto Parts Store that had the correct replacement "T" and so he was able to make the repair. Still having temperature issues trying to get up the passes so he's going to make adjustments to the load he's pulling (was ok until he picked up some ATVs and Trailer). Maybe some issue with a bubble in the system not getting bled out, too many critters stuck in the AC Condenser, or or or....says he's OK though and thanks for the concern.

I've said it before, I'll say it again; I'm happiest helping others. Phone call - road trip - whatever. Just something I do and I've received far more than I've given or can give from the members of this site and the people I've encountered throughout my life.

I used to live in pagosa back 2002-2004. Wish i was there to help. That pass is not the worst in the area, but it will test you. It is featured as an overlook in lampoons family vacation movie. Lots of rvs run that pass in the summer.

Glad it turned out well.

Glad the trip continue on.

My experience with that tee is also not good. At least mine crumpled at home when I was changing it.

A tip for Suburban owner is to change that tee before any long trip or at least check it and bring a spare.
It is not that difficult to change except for the coolant mess and wait till it cools down.
Part is availabe at the chain part store although it is not exactly the same part.

The tee might be worth doing a preventative maintenance change while in your driveway, or as a scheduled change at your earliest convenience, instead of out on the road?

You don't have to worry about the coolant mess if you boil all the water out first.

Thanks for all the help and offers. My wife and daughter were very impressed, as was I. My wife knew what a great bunch there is here before. She's even contacted people & posted for me when I wasn't able to.

I tried making it up the hill 3 times and overheated 3 times. The 3 Odysseys only way about 1200 lbs. I was wondering if the wheels weren't turning freely on the trailer or something. I will check that out next trip. It'll be just the wife and I next trip with the truck instead of the Suburban.

On the 96 Suburban, which had the same problem on a Christmas Eve many years ago, I used a copper T and 5/8 hydronic hose barbs. I think that is my favorite fix. I was heading to a hardware store this time if Carquest hadn't had the part
