I have no pictures yet, but my new streetglide is resting comfortably in its new home. I'm only 65 miles into ownership but a few things are immediatly apparent.
The seat aint worth shit. Nice looking, but possibly the worst stock seat ever
The mirrors take some getting used to, but ultimatly, they are quite good
The windsheild is a tad low for my taste. It looks good, but offers little protection. I will upgrade it first.
The radio controls are clear and straighforward. Love the fact that it will play MP3's saved in data format. I got nearly 140 songs on one cd! Radio sound is good-to-great at speed. the auto volume is spot on as well. Listened to "Both Sides Now" from Sammy Hagar, rolling up US 67 as the sun was going down on a glorious fall day. Damn near a religious experinece. I never realized how much better it could be with music.
Compared to my 06 TC88, the TC96 is smoother, and pulls like it came out of the Baldwin shops. Gear choice is largely personal choice. My old 88 would buck and clatter if you pulled too low an rpm in too high a gear. Not this one. Its smooth and seamless from just off idle. The exhaust sound is quite nice for stock pipes. A good tone and resonance, if just a bit to quiet to be enjoyed at speed
The new FLH frame is phenominal. Coupled with the 17" front wheel, the steering is neutral and light. Where my 06 would tend to fall in on new tires, and sit up on old ones, the 09 is dead neutral. Dial in a lean angle, neutralize bar pressure, and it maintains the line regarless of throttle setting. crawl speed manouvers feel a bit clumsier, but that may just be me getting used to the new handlebars.
Brakes feel much tighter and easier to modulate. Credit the new brembo calipers for that.
Bout the only downside is the ride. Its pretty bad. much worse than the 06, but most of that can be the horrible stock seat. I'm sure with the road sofa I had on the 06, th 09 would be just as comfy.
All in all, a marked improvement in almost all areas from the 06 model. I'll be keeping this one for quite some time. Pics in a day or two.
