Where it'll scan your computer to see what hardware is installed and which ones are out of date? My video card is giving me problems. This hasn't made it a year yet and I cant win. This is the error message I'm getting:

Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078)

Nick, how did you get to that site? You didn't download anything or send 'em any money, did you?

No, I'm not paying for anything. I did download something initially but ended up uninstalling it within 3 minutes.

I went to Nvidia to download the latest drivers for my GeForce 8400 GS. It was an 84 meg download and it ran the program fine. Problem is that it didnt fix my problem.

I'm gonna end up getting a whole new computer. I'm getting tired of these constant driver errors. By the error message I'm getting, it seems that there's a physical problem with this current video card.

I'm glad you didn't get suckered into it - I should have been explicit about NOT clicking on any friggin google ads...

The manual method described in the tutorial is always best (but most tedious). If yours isn't working, then I'm not sure what to tell ya. Too many people have problems with GForce cards that are a heap of farting around to fix.

Nice cards if they work - not so much if they don't.

I always buy ATI (buy Canadian, eh?) for that reason, even though they aren't without their quirks, either. Wouldn't touch a clone card with a 10-foot pole. (a card made by PowerTech, using the ATI chipset, or made by Supercolor, using the NVidia chipset.)

If it isn't made by NVidia or ATI, I don't use it.

Ok, thanks for your help. I guess it looks like I'm SOL until I can get a new system. Its going on 10 years old now anyways with major upgrades over the years. I might just retire this one.

Well, I'm on a desktop system and plan on keeping one like this. I kinda like it. I dont care much for laptops.

Don't computers age in dog years or something?? A 10 year old system is almost a Model T compared to nowadays :D

Mine is pushing 8 now that I think about it. I was getting so many unfixable errors that I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled XP. Took a couple days to get everything back up and running but wow is it running tons faster now. Only thing I forgot to save was my bookmarks :mad2: .

Get a nice Laptop Nick, then when you get EFI Live you will have one. :D

Nick, I can help you get a cheap computer be it a lap top or desk top.

Just PM me if you are interested.

Oh, do you like Dell?

I just need the CPU. Something high end would be nice. I dont care what it is. The one I've got has served me well but it seems its time to move on and retire this one.

Let me know what you can do.
