is Cloyes timing chains made in USA again?

so they switched to import by 2013 then?

I may have to buy this thing in case I decide I dont want a set of gears.

jeff, how long of miles could you get out of a cloyes USA set? would I be better off with gears?

You should be able to get 250,000 miles on a set.

I put close to 500,000 miles on a set that you could just about take off without pulling the gears. That's abusive and just plain wrong. Not recommended.

I've talked to some guys recently that said they checked their Chinese timing sets after 20 to 30,000 miles and they were as loose as when they changed them
After what I've seen for parts quality the last several years, I do not disbelieve them

I've never been a believer in reusing the gears. How much slop did you have on installation with old gears?

Any vehicle with over 150,000 miles that I had apart for some reason, or was close enough that taking the cover off was not a huge issue, always checked close enough to max slop that I changed the timing set.

The gears are hardened so unless something serious happened, they are usually in good shape. If they look worn, then they are replaced. Last job, chain was nice and tight.

Edit, the last job I did, it had 220K on it, gears looked very good, put a new chain on, old one was sloppy, new one was nice and tight.
