i have a 6.5 with 175k miles. i notice a small stream of blowby out of the dipstick. this is my first diesel so i dont know much about this other than reading on different forums and such but i couldnt find any threads on blowby. i dont really know how much is a lot or a little when it comes to blowby. i already replaced the cdr. is this normal for this mileage? i want to install new injectors, glow plugs, and timing set but that is a lot of money to drop if this is unusual wear and tear for a motor with this mileage. i dont want to waste my money. by the way, what are the best brands to install for the items mentioned above? i know cloyes on the timing set. how about the others? marine or standard injectors? standard or upgrade glowplugs? thank you in advance for the help!

Does it use much oil? Most of these engines have some blowby.

For glow plugs use either Bosch Duraterms or AC Delco 60g's

Unless you plan on pouring the fuel to it use standard Bosch, AC Delco or Stanadyne injectors.

AKdieseldriver posted on an earlier thread the instructions for executing the bucket test to check blow by.

"the bucket test is described in detail in Heath's blog. Basically with the clear hose in the bucket when you rev the engine to 2k rpm you should see the water in the bucket rise up the clear tubing [one or more inches]. If it blows bubbles that is really bad. FWIW mine with lots of blowby still passes the bucket test. Make sure the air filter is clean dirty one will give you a false reading and an oiled filter will do similarly."

Mine just crossed 200k, has puffed since I bought it 5 years ago at 128 and it passed the test a month ago.

I did the bucket test and water rose about an inch or little more in the hose so I guess I'm good. Thank you very much for the help. I guess its time to go spend some money now!
