IP pump lubricants? Can anything help a sticking fuel solenoid?

I have read where some people run 2 stroke oil, or even a Standyne additive. I am experiencing 35 and 36 codes as well as well as spontaneous dying. I have 4 PMDs and all do the same thing. I was told by a shop that the ECM will shut the truck down if the fuel solenoid is not behaving enough to run. I was further told looking at the FS closure time with a techII would tell me if we have a pump issue or not.

I have put about 16oz over 5gal of fuel in the truck hoping to free things up if I truly have a problem. Can anyone comment on any other reasons than a PMD for spontaneous cut out with almost immediate restart? Hot or cold, this truck does not seem to care...

I run Non detergent 30w myself.

Problem is, all the things you mention are more of a preventative maintenance thing.

You're probably not going to like this but;

If your IP (fuel solenoid) is on the way out, it's only a matter of time no matter what you use as an "additive"....

Oils (2stroke/sae 30 oil) are going to lubricate but not free things up. Might try some biofuel it has a lot of solventcy (spelling?) or heavy dose of stanadyne performance formula. But you are asking for miracle in a bottle. It is not going to fix a bad FS. Might help free up a gummy one maybe.

if your pulse width values on the scanner are over 2.0ms then it has issues. Your results could all be caused by air in the fuel, like from rotted fuel lines above the fuel tank, or if your LP is dead you could be sucking air from anywhere in the system, like rotted lines under the intake or loose hoses on the fuel filter manager, or incorrectly installed fuel filter that didnt seat right.

Otherwise the fuel solenoid could just be on its way out. You can try measuring the resistance through its windings, and should have 0.4 ohms. You can measure that across the connection to the PMD sockets B and F.

There are some screens inside the IP that could be clogged, or the last ditch screen inside the fuel filter manager could be clogged starving IP of fuel, and would not be seen by testing pressure at the drain.

Biodiesel is a very good solvent. Run a tank of bio-d through it. Not just the 2% kind, something more like 100%.

Note: it will loosen up all kinds of other crud in your fuel system as well. After you run a tank of bio-d, you would do well to replace the fuel filter.

If crudduiness is the problem with your IP, this should help. If not, well, you just cleaned your fuel system and got it all ready for the new IP.

All the BioD supplier in TX went under already, though. So it is probably more difficult to get unless you can find somebody who makes it.
Make sure it is a good BioD, though. Some still have water in it or never wash it (at least that is their term).

Yeah I am in Omaha, NE and there is only one 100% biodiesel place. Only one!!!
Still, it was worth looking for.
I rebuilt a Mercedes 5-cal diesel. Soaked the head and the manifolds in bio-d. That made me a believer in it's solvent properties.

Aint nothing but the lye used in making it.....lye soap plus alcohol. Remember Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies boiling their clothes in lye soap in the big pot?
