Intake manifold to turbo brace missing on the 95 Tahoe

Just noticed last night that the turbo brace - from the turbo to the manifold is missing on the 95 Tahoe

Is it as important as the starter bracket?

Its more so there to help align the boot that connects the manifold to the turbo. It keeps things aligned. Chances are, if your turbo is older and has never been clocked, it won't be detrimental to not have it as more than likely it won't go anywhere. Hell, even a newer one if properly torqued wont go anywhere since those tabs on the back of the GM-X series turbo's hold them pretty damn tight.

That's a relief.

There's plenty of people that didn't think that little bracket on the starter does much. LOL

When I find something like that missing I get a little nervous.

I found the bolt from the bracket to the starter missing on the 98 Suburban while I was doing glow plugs. That was the same time I found the starter heat shield missing and the wire loom charred. Lucky it didn't get the wires.

Sometimes it just isn't worth farming anything out.

I wouldn't sweat it to much, stick one on there when you find one, its not near as important as the starter brace is. The 92's didn't have that brace on the turbo.

I have one if you really want to put one on yours. Removed mine for ATT's.

Like the EGR was installed to reduce mileage! As well as the Cat
that stuff was demanded by the tree huggers.I'm sure the general would've ommitted it if he could have.

IMO the 2 braces are there to prevent vibration and metal fatique in the exh manifold bolts cause that turbo is kinda far of to the side and pretty heavy, not saying it would just break off without them, just added securety.
But hey its your truck,do whatever

Manifolds are cheap. Getting them on and off however is not fun.
Think of the extreme vibration a diesel engine has. Gas engines are not known to break alternator brackets like diesels are...

Now imagine this vibration and then think of "leverage" and the distance that heavy turbo is from the center of the vibration.

Now look at the heater hose in the way. Make sure you have heater hose parts before you do anything with it. (The pot metal connector on the t-stat housing.)

I like that brace there. It is removed with an ATT, but I eventually want to get something there with the ATT. The heavy turbo does make quite the moment about the engine, especially when you have a mass spinning inside the turbo. We have some experience that shows it doesnt hurt much if anything when its removed, but having one seems logical.
