Intake Manifold Question????

I have a 1994 6.5 TD "F" code. When I was pulling the intake manifold off, (lower), in order to get to the rocker arm that had the broken pin :mad2:. I noticed there were two little, thin metal plates covering the center holes in the heads. They were covering/blocking the hole between the head and the hole in the intake that feeds the plenum. My question is why are they there, what is there purpose?

I would think they are NOT supposed to be there. When I bought a new Felpro gasket set they were not in the set. Where they used to block flow to the egr for some reason?

If I do need them, then where can I locate some.

Thanks!

Intake gaskets for an "F" series engine have the metal plate built in. An "S" engine gasket without the plate should work, it may however burn out in time from the exhaust gas heat and pressure.

Those plates should be part of the gaskets. When I put a J code (non EGR) lower manifold on my 83 6.2 I got an intake gasket set with the plates to block the EGR ports in the heads.
