What's the "normal" range for IAT's in a 6.5 turbo? I was thinking about getting a gauge for the 3rd pod in the pillar mount.

How hot is too hot?

I think 150* F is the ideal, anything over 200* F is getting high. Leo

With a load it's too hot

These days with outside air at about 50 deg F and running empty my IAT on the freeway will run around 120 - 140 at about 4-7 psi boost. The problem I have is loaded climbing a hill. I can peg my 280 deg gauge and my Scan gauge only reads up to 299 if I have the trailer empty or loaded climbing a slight grade. Of course the PCM pulled the fuel off way back around 210. So, even with the reduced fuel input I can still run temps into the high 200's. After all I've been reading, that's why I ordered the ATT. It shipped today and I'm looking forward to next Friday when I can install it. I'll decide this summer if I still want to add the intercooler but from what I read, I can sell it.

On another note, the 150 degrees is rumored to be optimum for mileage. It would be interesting to put a heat exchanger in so you could actually control the IAT to a preset temperature and confirm that.

Too many projects...

You could do a set of shutters over the Intercooler kind of like the old big rigs had. That way you could adjust temp by adjusting airflow.

Who did you order your intercooler from and how much did it cost?

I found it on Craig's list and it cost about $50. It's a bit smaller than the ones you find on here. I added another $150 or so in parts including hose, clamps, intake snorkle, etc. Still haven't got it mounted and won't until I try the ATT for a while and then probably won't at all.

ambient air about 70f, no load- truck only at wot with att it hit 216.1, cruise at 3.5 psi, temp was 147. using gmtdscantech

What kind of boost were you at when it hit 215, around 15 psi ? Hey doc give me a ring when you get a minute, I lost your number (dam cell phone).

Thanks for the answers. Now I just need to decide on a gauge, or break down & buy one of them new fangled scanin' doohikees.
