As many here know I'm transplanting an 01 DMAX/ALLI into my 95 SUBURBAN. While the engine is out I'm doing the head gaskets because the passenger side in the rear had a slight leak in between the block and the gasket. When I tore it down all the injector tips and cylinders were uniform except for #2 which was rather wet and clean on half the piston dome. I checked the balance rates before I pulled it and all were within+/-.4 except 2(-2.43) and 5(2.41). the engine also had a knock in it occasionally and a BAD lope idle. I have a FPR coming for the lope idle as it was fluctuating about 1700 PSI at idle. My main question though is in regards to the injectors. Should I replace them or not? They were done at 30K under warranty, and the truck had 162K when I pulled it down. I already have the heads off and tore down, and figure now is the time to replace the injectors. My obstacle right now is money is running short currently as I have had NO work in almost 3 months.

I pulled the injector nozzles off and cleaned them all and re-assembled them. #2 was DEFINATELY leaking down as even the pressure from a spray can of carb cleaner blead right past the seat when I checked it, and #5 seemed MUCH looser than the rest when I pulled the needle valve out of the nozzle in it. After soaking them all in cleaner and re-assembling though none were leaking and all have a good spray pattern with a fine mist when I checked them with spray carb cleaner. I found a shop to test them for 3-4 bucks each, or PENSAOLA has theres for $149 each. Should I have them tested or just replace them due to milage?

Bite the bullet and replace them while the motor is torn apart. You'll kick yourself in the ass if they fail 1000 miles down the road.

That's ort of what I figure will happen if I don't do em. The balance rates were good, but they sure were sticky when I took em apart.

#2 sure was washed down a bit.

Even if you dont replace them, its only a matter of time. And with around 100k on those, its time they go.

They had roughly 132K on em, and all of them looked like the needle valve was worn pretty flat in the seat area of em. I don't know if they make em that way or not, but they didn't look right to me that a high pressure poppet would have edges like that in em.

PENSACOLA diesel sells them for $149.99 shipping included both ways, the cheapest I have found elsewhere was $300 for BOSCH remans. GMPARTSDIRECT has cheap prices, but there shipping is OUTRAGOUS! I found one company that will sell me nozzles for $89 + shipping, but then I have to find a shop that can properly test them. The only 2 shops I have found that said they would even touch em both said they could only pop test them.

I disagree...mine had 200K on then and only one went bad. I would get them tested and go from there.

I wish I would have followed your advice. 2 of my remans from PENSACOLA are high on the balance rates and after about 15 miles of driving I have developed a knock in the engine with a bad unburned diesel smell out the exhaust. My origanals were still working, I wish I would have put em back in now.

shipping to my house was 305 bucks, but still alot cheaper than 340 bucks the dealer wants. I still stand to save almost a grand by this route.
