Well it took me an hour to do my injectors. :biggrinjester:

Actually that is and hour to get them out.....of the driver side that is.:biggrinjester: 1st time not bad I think. Now to see how fast (w/ quality) to get them back in???? I don't know how Chris does both sides in 2 1/2 hours. It will probably take that long to get them out of the passenger side. who knows????

I refuse to comment on the grounds that the young whippersnapper will call me olde again...

mine took just a little longer than that. Just a little. With a sundial.

It can be done. But you need to be setup. Know what tools you need and probably have done it before. It took me longer because I never did it before plus I was doing other things at the same time as well but I find 2.5 hrs believable with air tools and non stop ambition. even with puling the wheelwell and turbo I think you could pull it off close to 3 but if you have never done it before don't worry about how fast someone else did it. It's your truck and take as long as you need to do it right. It's not worth having to pull the injectors back out because you got dirt in one or something stupid just to beat the last guys time. That doesn't impress anyone. Getting it done right the first time is what will impress people.

I think if you've done it before and can do the passenger's side without pulling the turbo and inner fender then it's doable. I know when I did mine a good bit of time was taken up by trying to figure out exactly what had to be removed/moved etc. Knowing what I know now I think I could do the driver's side in less than 1 hour without too much trouble, provided you don't run into trouble with one that is stuck.

You'd have to be going balls out and not spend any time futzing around purdying things up and such.

I think the only thing air tools would help with would be fender removal if you were going that route. Taking the fender off would be a snap with an air ratchet.

Without interruptions and stuff, about 4 hours without removing the turbo. I had to modify my socket a bit on the metal lathe, so that took a bit of time, and looking for tools is the worse. Have a tray or table with all your stuff you need right beside you, and an 8" high stool or something to stand on so you can reach and see what you are doing behind the turbo, I'm 5'11". I was taking my time, doing my best to not make mistakes. It was actually a fun project.

Balls out or futzing around? :wink5:

I don't like to be rushed. That's when I usually "F" something up or things just end up going bad in general.

The new ones went it in about 55 minutes. Remember guy's it is only the driver side that I did. Passenger side will probably be next weekend. My fuel sending unit is due to ship on Monday so hopefully it will be in by the 3rd and I can do that next weekend along w/ the passenger side injectors.

I actually didn't need a stool to stand on. The hard part for me are my hands. Being 6' 3" I can reach pretty much anything unfortunately my hands can get in the way sometimes. The one closest to the cab was a tight squeeze for me. I almost got one of my boys to do it for me but my wife would kill me if they got grease all over themselfs.

There are pics in my garage at the other site of the war wounds that I sustained from doing my injectors. I'm 6'2" and didn't need any kind of stool or ladder either but on the passenger's side I removed the fender and turbo and actually sat in the engine compartment with my butt where the battery would be and my feet on the suspension. It made it much it much easier to get at number 8.

Careful doing that. I made the mistake of only doing half and it sent the PCM for a loop. I did an extensive write up on the old place about it but bottom line GMCTD chimed in . I started the truck after only doing half and it ran like crap. It wasn't till after I finished all of them and took it for a good 30 min ride that it cleared up. I don't remeber the exact techincal reason GMCTD gave but it was something about the uneven fuel rates from old injectors and new ones and the PCM trying to balance it out and not getting the air out properly.

I remember that write up. The truck is out of commision until I get the new fuel sending unit this week hopefully. I will do the passenger side before starting her up.

Thanks for the reminder aces. I knew there was a reason I was going to do them before starting her up but I couldn't remember until you chimmed in.

Well now I am swapping out the passenger side and have run into a possible problem. I noticed that under the #8 injector there is a fuel grease mixture on the glow plug electrode and the ceramic cover is broken (I don't know if the broken ceramic cover is an issue or not). I also noticed the #8 injector screws in really easily I then torque it down and I still see approximatly 1 1/2 - 2 threads still showing. The others do not show any threads. This could be why it is leaking. Any suggestion?

Thanks!

Sounds like someone crossthreaded them and stopped where it lays?

I don't know about cross threading. that happens at the entrance of the hole usually not when it't almost all the way in. Someone on the other site thinks the manufacturer may not have bored the hole to the correct depth.

Well what i'm thinking is, someone crossthreaded it, before you, and possibly kept on going trying to get away with it.... They stopped there because they were afraid of snapping it from over torque required to crossthread that deep.

Just a thought, Did someone else do them before or are they originals?

what is a threadchaser?

I compared the threads to the other holes and they look the same. I think I am going to leave it and see what happens.
