Injector lines breaking?

I'm HOPEFULLY going to be putting my rebuild/new-to-me injectors in tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone has ever had problems removing the high-pressure injection lines - you know - the metal ones in the center of the injector. It seems like if something is to go wrong, it typically does with me. :mad2::sad:

Also, I'm planning on relocating my PMD finally - either today or sometime this weekend. Where is the best spot? I've heard behind the bumper, or above the skid plate - but wouldn't there be a problem with mud and rain and stuff splashing up there?

I've never heard of injector lines breaking unless you bend them 90 degrees or something like that. As far as the PMD, I have mine mounted on some heat synch behind the licence plate inside the bumper.

ok - good to know - thanks!

I had one crack on my 91-6.2.It wasn't from removing. Took me a long time to figure out where the diesel fuel smell was coming from. It was #8 and sprayed a fine mist onto the exhaust manifold and then evaporated. Be shure all the rubber and clamps are put back on. Vibration can crack them. My pmd/fsd on the 95LD is behind the licence plate also

Hmmmm.......

Maybe that's my problem on my 6.2. the #8 and the surrounding area is wet and i can't find where it's coming from. Time to start digging. Did the crack leak enough to leave a small puddle on the ground after shutdown?

Thanks for the info.

The only thing to note with the injector lines is to be very careful with them. In essence, treat them like glass, they have a copper coating on the inside that will chip if bent and that will really ruin your day(and "new-to-you-injectors")

As for PMD location, its really up to you. My truck spends most of its time on the highway and the roads, with an occasional fire path as a shortcut, so my PMD is located bolted to the frame rail with the heat sink fins in direct air stream.

The idea is this, you want that thing as cool as possible. The cooler the better for electronics. But protection from damage is another thing to consider. Install it as you see fit based on how you operate your truck. Inside the nostrils of the bumper is a great place as its as safe as the bumper is yet still provides good airflow.

Got the injectors changed - no real problems with the lines- just kind of pushed them away with the breaker bar for each turn. Old injectors and some of the new injectors had some resistance coming out/going in....but I do believe its all good. And I relocated the PMD to behind the front license plate holder.

The starter and rear passenger side of the engine were wet but not leaving a puddle. Just a few drops. The line cracked on the top of the piece that the nut to the injector tightens. I had to lay on top of the engine with it running with a very bright light to see the fine mist coming out. Then there was the problem of finding one injector line[this was 10 years ago when there was very few in the junkyard] I ended up getting one from a older 6.2 and bending it to fit. No other choice other than a whole set from the stealer for almost $500. The leak had no effect on how it ran.
