Is it possible for an injection pump to be accidentally installed 180 degrees out of phase ?
I have a 94 silverado 6.5l f motor that wont fire up. It has a new starter, relocated pmd in front of radiator, new lp relay ( lift pump works when cranking ), new ops. New ac60 glows. With glow plugs out, produces brown mist while cranking. Glows have 10.5 v when glow lite on. Previous owner replaced IP. Still wont fire up.

Yes it is. I can't remember if you can check it with out pulling timing cover. Do you have compression or is the cam out of time?

Valve clearance issues is why I asked about compression.

For the ip timing to be out 180 you have something major going on. Getting any smoke while cranking shows fuel supply(even if motor oil) and some kind of ignition. I figure do a compression test since you are already turning over engine with starter at this point

The bolt pattern of the IP will not allow all 3 bolts to be put in if it is off. Supposedly the gear/chain timing cover is too tight to allow the gear to jump out of time during a swap.

These engines can smoke with NO fuel.

Do you have a SES and service throttle light at key on? Fuel at the injectors with 1 line cracked loose? 100 RPM when cranking minimum? Grounds and battery cables including positive cables can corrode internally slowing your cranking down. 60G's (IMO they suck vs. Duraterms) heat slower then the OEM plugs so you may need to give them longer glow time. They are self limiting so hit/light them for 30+ seconds.

To many unknowns here.
IP could be installed slightly out of time to cause a no fire,..verify if the FSO on the IP is vertical to the engine(initial setting).
2) Maybe the fuel system is not bled properly,...is there fuel at the injectors when cranking?
3) IP replaced!,..with what?..new, rebuild, used, wrecking yard find ? was the correct model IP used for the 94 model? (5068 i think)
4) what was the reason for replacing the iP

I just found this out. The original IP is a model ending in #5288, which is the correct number for my year truck. This IP is sitting in a box. The IP presently in my engine is a #5521, which is supposed to be for the year 2000 motor. It obviously is not a new pump as the previous owner has stated. I think he got a hold of a used pump and threw it in there hoping it would work. I think this guy was just trying to flip this truck, and found out he was over his head. I got this truck for a steal and i will get it running ! A local member, mtnlion, says i just might need the correct prom to get this truck running.

if it had a 5288 pump in it originally the 5521 should work as well. the odd ball pump for 94 (some 3/4t and 1 tons) was a 5068. need to check your prom to see what pump it needs

I just read 6.5 grounds by Turbine Doc as advised to me by mtnlion. I think i'll check all my grounds before i do anything else.

Every ground i can find under the hood has no resistence. I even pulled the curbside fender again and checked all grounds in the starter area. I checked the ground on the remoted pmd. All good.
A question i have is where is the prom ? Is it under the dash behind the fuse box ? There are 4 wires tied together that have been terminated behind the fuse box. a green one, 2 white ones, and a black one. I don't know if they were for some aftermarket accessory. Is it possible someone could have stole the prom while the truck was in a tow yard ?
