Mine is going out, I believe. I am leaving on a 4 day Jeep trip in the morning.
Decided to pop into AutoZone and pick one up to bring with me, so
I'd be able to change it if it completely quits - I was expecting price to be
about 40 dollars....... 165.00 :yikes:
NAPA, O'Reillys, Advance.. all around the same.
Sigh, I love my truck. I just gotta keep saying that.
I guess it's a lot less than a months note on a new one, but Jeez!
OK, rant over :smile5:

I had replaced the ignition switch in my 95 and less than a month later the multi-malfunction switch went out. I went to the junkyard and bought a complete steering column for $75 with the air bag controler. The multi-function switch was close to $200. Now I have a near new spare ignition switch.

Hi Tookie,

Yes, those switches are expensive. I replaced one in the Tahoe before I figured out the real problem (bad fuse contacts). Oh well, at least I have a new ignition switch. Best of luck.

95-96(97+ is the same except with the PASSLOCK sensor in it) is one style of switch while 94- is another. Learned this one when I was looking at the DMAX conversion book which covers 88-94 dash wiring in it and i found that the 95 ignition switch was almost identical to the 01 donor truck.

The switch for a 94 is down on the column about halfway and is moved via a rod that connects to the lock cylinder. That is the same style of ignition switch that GM used for many many years, and it was also used in JEEPS as GM sold AMC there steering columns for many years.

Been through that, myself. Expensive, but the truck was useless without it since it kept dying on me at random times, which was scary as heck. It's not a bad job to replace it, at least
