Problem: Explain your problem in concise language (ie: Cranks but won’t fire). Cranks pops like it is trying to start, a little white burnt diesel smoke but won't start. with a shot of fuel in the intake it fires up but a little hesitant to start. Let the engine run a couple of minutes shut it off and it will start right up. Let it sit for a hour it will start up let it sit overnight it will only crank. The crank heater works fine.

- Automatic or Standard Automatic

- Replaced parts and mods (IP, PMD, chip/PCM, TM, injectors etc) Rebuilt IP, Heath reflash, Heath exhaust, Homemade TM, New Diesel Depot engine, New starter
- Model: ‘S’ or ‘F’ engine, NA or Turbo, EGR? F Turbo
- Ambient outside temp: (indicate *C or *F) 25*F
- What fuel are you using? (#1 Diesel, #2 Diesel, Bio, VO, WVO, etc) #1 diesel
- What fuel additives are you using? Lucas
- Where are you located? Northern Virginia

General maintenance: inspect and evaluate the condition of each. When were they last changed?
- Air filter one month old
- Fuel filter one month old
- CDR Valve? ??? Seems to be working
- Coolant – last flushed/replaced at one month ago
- Oil – synthetic/regular, changed at Rotella T 15-40 50 miles since change
- Batteries – state of charge, (matched set) replaced at Mis-matched but good set
- Battery cables and grounds (removed, cleaned and tightened): yes
- Glow Plugs - how many miles on them? 300 miles What type? Bosch
- Injectors - last changed at ? but tested and working prop.

Diagnostics:

1] Starting:
1a] Does the engine start? with some fuel sprayed in the intake
1b] Does the engine crank over? yes
1c] Are your batteries fully charged? yes
1d] Have you removed, cleaned, and tightened all battery connections? yes
1e] Does your Wait to Start light come on for a time? How long? @15 sec.
1f] Does your glow plug light come on? _________ For how long? _________
1g] Do you see smoke from the exhaust while cranking? What color? yes a little bit of white smoke
1h] Does the Service Engine Light Glow during Start/bulb check? yes

2] Fuel Issues (if not running):
2a] Can you hear your lift pump working? yes
2b] Do you get a steady flow of fuel from the water drain (T-handle) ? yes
2c] Loosen the inlet line from the IP – is fuel coming out (Lift Pump on)?
2d] Loosen an injector line and crank the engine - does fuel come out? yes
2e] Do you hear a vacuum (hiss) when you remove the fuel cap? will check

3] PMD / IP Issues
3a] Location of PMD (on pump, on intake, remote mounted) new but pump mounted

7d] Have you replaced the fan clutch? Manufacturer of replacement? no
7e] (winter) Have you tested your antifreeze? Good to what temp? -40*F
7f] (winter) Are you using a winter grille cover? no
 
when your wts light is on does you volt meter guage dip way down? If not could be faulty controller. Are you spraying diesel or ether to start it? Check and clean grounds especially at the back passenger head. Have to pull apart to check visual isn't good enough. Also could be cranking to slow when cold load test batts and starter. Should crank about 450 rpm. Also pmd could be bad even after just 6 months get that thing outta there.
 
I will double check the grounds, the starter is new and the batteries were checked today(both were good). I know the pmd needs to get out of there but no funds for at least a couple of weeks. The pickup runs great after started and starts up when shut off just will not start after sitting all night.
I spray some diesel in the intake. Ether is only good for cleaning up parts and shooting .22 tracers at):h
 
I put a new controller on there last week thinking that was the problem also the old one was bad.
 
Pull a glow out and hook the wire up and ground the glow plug so you can watch it glow. should get red in about 5-6secs
 
I ususually test the glow plugs for continuity first and check for juice to the glow plugs when the light is on 2nd.
Remember to use anti-seeze when reinstalling the glow plugs
 
By physically watching the glow get red your testing the entire system in one shot and can also see if something is weak whereas it might still "test" good
 
Ok on further checking i replaced the starter and it did crank faster but still would not start then I checked EVERY glow plug to find that only a couple where working (the ones that I normally check:mad2:) So new glow plugs and vroom runs great thanks for all your help:D
 
So, hypothetically, if you did have hair, and you proceeded to pull it out,... would you now be more bald than what you are right now?
