I can't be the ONLY one out there to have one of these ol beaters! Haha
Anyway, yes this is the new section for the idi drivers and enthusiasts separated from the all known Powerstroke engine. Post here with anything in regards to Pre-powerstroke ford 7.3 diesel engines. (Internationals) I will be filling up this section with more later on but for now I think I'm the only one withOUT a turbo. ):h But, that's ok, she's never steered me wrong! Going to post up in regards to custom built turbo job too. Hopefully a project that will start shortly. If anyone has any incite into parts, material, installation and so forth feel free to post here (In the turbo thread) even if you have never done work to IDIs.

And, invite anyone you know with an Ford International diesel!

As of right now this seems to be your section. Looks like to me you need to find all your pre-powerstroke buddies and have them join up! ):h

How many miles do you have on your truck, and how are you doing for mileage? My buddy had one of those. It was a little noisy, but ran very well. He swore by it!

We had a 7.3 IDI and a 6.9 IDI. Both motors where great, ran strong (for the day). We just traded up to the powerjokes in 95. We clocked 367K on our tell my sister slipped the timeing chain. And BOOM!!!!!! But the truck did a hell of a job holdin up our barn for the nest 5 years:).

I have been lookin for your body truck to restor for along time now. Very hard to find one

Oh wow that sucks, at least it help up the barn well :p.

i used to have an 89 7.3L f250, great truck. dual 3" exhaust really helped out my fuel economy, went from 12-13 around town up to 17-19, some mixed driving but mostly cruisin at 40-60mph.

I had an 89 F250 long bed ext cab. Hm really? That is nuts. I wanna run 4" downpipe on my 1992 F350, when I put on the turbo, to eliminate air restriction.
Should do wonders.

Sweet how much HP are you after? how do you plan on gettin all that boost throught the pre chambers?
Well, we'll see. I'm gonna do a before and after on it. But, I need to find a dyno that has a load on it, because the local one here doesn't have it's brakes or load. And, as far as that. We'll see haha

stock they are REALLY choked up. mine was 3" straight from the manifolds and dumped out on the outside of the extended cab, no muffler for a few months ):h. wanted to hear my radio again so i ran them out the rear with a set of stock mufflers, went down to 16-18mpg. 4.10 or 4.11 gears and 3 speed auto 2wd on 235x85x16 tires.

Well luckily I got a nice 5 speed with OD and fairly new clutch and two piece flywheel so my mileage can be real good in town if I just drive decent and upshift early.

I have a clean 1990 F250 that had a Utility box on it when I purchased it. It's got a nice clean rust free 8ft paint matching OEM box now. The truck just turned 330K on the clock best I can tell anyways cause they start over after 100K. Mine has 1 ton suspension rides a tad rough, but it's in great shape, I have old old pics from purchase...I'll have to snap a few new ones so you can see before & afters. The IDI has served me very well, great motor & truck!

I just bought my 95 1500 in my avatar cause of recent back health trouble, could not take the shaken no more from the 250. Don't want to sell my old IDI, but my driveway is getting mighty crowded...

what trannies do you have in either IDI diesels? (and if the 95 is 5spd manual, is it for sale?) :)

The last ford diesel i have respect for is the 7.3L IDI. We actually have two at home (91 CCLB F350 7.3L 5spd 2wd, and a 89 F450 Converted into a hotshot truck, has 48' trailer) not bad trucks, especially when they have a 5spd.

made the natural aspirated half respectable, didn't it? I just love to have a manual transmission, simple, cheap, easy to work on/maintain, the list goes on and on!

What makes it better, it had a utility bed with a well (domestic/submersible) pulling boom/winches on it and a 3-3.5" stack right behind the cab in the bed. That thing sounded pissed off at 2,750.):h
