My front driver side brake started grinding yesterday. It has been less than 3 months since I replaced them.:banghead: I went to fix it an I found a 5 inch pin connecting the suspension where the ruber bushing and the metal washer worked their way to the center of the pin from the end. I don't know if this had anything to do w/ the brake failing but the inside pad was the one that went bad. The outer one still has over 50% left.

Here are the pics. Anyone know what it is called and is it available at parts stores?

Sway bar link, Ive replaced them on every Chevy I have ever owned. I think you can get a set of 2 for 20 bucks or so at the parts store..

Yes, that's your front sway bar link. I can't see how that would have anything to do with your front brake failure though.

Did you replace the slider pins and bushings on your brake calipers when you worked on your brakes 3 months ago? Or at least made sure they would slide freely without binding? Those pins and bushings tend to corrode and get stuck in one position preventing the caliper from floating. When that happens, you will get the premature type of failure you've described.

I did not replace the slider pins and bushings. I am assuming those are the bolts that screw in and hold it in place. Right?

I did pick up a stabilizer pins at the part store for $9. Not bad.

Now the problem is getting the rotor off. That nut is a PITA. I have used my inpact gun 10 times on it and it wont budge. I have a 3/4" breaker bar and it still wont budge. It looks like the joint is going to break before it moves the nut.

Any thoughts?

Yes, they are the pins that hold the caliper in place. they must be able to slide freely or you will have problems.

I remember a few years back trying to get that nut off from an industrial forklift truck. I broke my 1/2 inch breaker bar (twisted the tip right off). My Snap-On snapped OFF :). I finally ended up getting a 3/4 inch breaker bar and an industrial impact socket, then I used a 3 ft piece of steel pipe and slid it over the breaker bar. -- After literally jumping on the pipe with both feet, the nut finally came loose. Those nuts can be a "mo fo" to get loose. Try soaking it for a while with penetrating oil.

My $.02 is to rebuild the caliper while you are at it, or get rebuilt ones from the store. One of mine gave me uneven wearing fits until I rebuilt it.

I finally got the nut off. It took a breaker bar w/ a 4 ft pipe on the end of it and it still took 5 minutes. When the socket started to move it freaked me out. I thought I was stripping it but luckily I didn't. I put the wheel pull on and pushed the stem back as far as I could and the rotor wont come off. I can't remember if I had to remove the 4 bolts on the inside???? Any one know?

Also the nut was right hand.

any kind of brake work is a PITA. i try to replace as few parts as possible because i'm cheap by cleaning/greasing/buffing the old pieces and usually end up paying for it later. it takes money and a lot of time to do it right. congrats on getting it fixed.
