While out plowing I encountered a speeding car approaching. After he was unsuccessful at running me off the road, a couple miles later I came upon a school bus off the road. Driver said she had to go off the road to avoid a speeding car that came around the corner in her lane. Bus went straight across a gravel/mud area, fortunately no trees to hit. Rear bumper was 30' from the edge of the pavement, and she had already dug the drive wheels in until she was hung up on the pumpkin.

I saw a guy with a late model F350 superduty diesel getting a chain out of his truck, stopped to see if I could help. He hooked onto it, spun his tires for a couple minutes then gave up without budging it. Unhooked him and hooked up the big bad Chevy to it. The pressure is on! Low range and a straight pull resulted in nothing. Little tug resulted in nothing. Little tug, wide open throttle, black exhaust smoke mixed with blue tire smoke and I gained about a foot. Couple more yanks and it started to come out. I probably took a year off the life of my tires, axles and driveshafts, but I was able to do what a Furd couldn't do.

I'm sure he had more horsepower and torque than my old 6.5, but I have enough torque, gears and oh did I mention 6 aggressive tires and a locker as opposed to 4 street tires? A ton of weight in the back and a half-ton on the front worked in my favor too.

Don't know what it weighed, but it was a new Genesis chassis full size school bus.

that's awesome...that may even beat Nick's pull even though it was a gravel truck....number one he was barely offroad (nick's truck) and the semi wasnt stuck...hehe see how long it takes for Nick to read this....can't overstate the fact that you had weight....lockers....and agressive tires.....these are enormous helps:thumbsup:

If only there was an off duty police officer to call the jackass in...
I almost did, but several factors played into it. First, I didn't know the jerk had already run someone off the road. I crowded him pretty bad with my plow on the centerline, to make sure he was aware he wasn't going to run me off the road. He gave me a dirty look as he went by, too bad, I'm going 20in a 30 on a half-plowed slippery, bumpy back road; if he wants to take a bite of my plow, he's welcome to it. We were miles out into the boondocks and I didn't write down his plate. I saw it, but forgot it a minute later. Without a plate the police wouldn't have been able to find him heading out of town. Besides, on a snow day the police are so busy with accidents, they don't really have time for motor vehicle complaints. There wasn't even a cop at the bus off the road until I had already got it out and was unhooking. And it was a half-mile from the police station.

I constantly see things when I'm out driving off-duty, but I pick and choose what I'm going to call in. I don't want to be "that guy".

Good job Dan!! The mighty 6.5!
I pulled a semi out of a ditch in January. Man was that a Utube moment.
A year or so ago I pulled a daycab International with a 40 foot box up a hill and around a corner into a parking lot. He got stuck on the hill with the rear end of the trailer sticking out into traffic, there was a cop there directing the traffic around it. I thought it would be an easy pull, with him spinning and me pulling, but it was all ice under the snow and we just sat there spinning. I had just taken the sander and weight off the back, still had the plow on the front. There was a Dodge and a Ford sitting there watching, so I couldn't give up. I burned off a lot of tire before some pretty hard yanks got him moving. That was right before I went and bought the aggressive tires, those street weenies were junk.
I actually do have a stretch strap for yanking, but it's got a cut in it. I need to get it over to the sailmakers to have it repaired.

Dan get a masterpull stretch rope. It makes pulling anything so much easier. I have a 20' and a 30' and they pull smooth even with a running start:D

This reminds me, there has been a tow strap laying on the side of the road near my house for months and I have been meaning to grab it.

I have a 30 foot 4 inch wide Keeper recovery strap, I think it's rated for 30,000lbs. I've never really been able to stretch it, but I bet that bus would have. I didn't dare use it because last time I used it we ran a chain through one of the stitched end loops and it somehow cut halfway through the loop. We used to have all our wreckmaster stuff repaired at a sailmaker shop, so I need to get this thing over there and see what it would cost to fix. I think they can undo the stitched loop, shorten it a foot and stitch it back up. And I need to buy some D-rings for the ends of it.
I don't like yanking with chains.

got stuck last night in my cruiser, had to get pulled out by a Dodge with a Cummins.

Joe, I just noticed you said rope, are those round-shaped? Because I saw a round one used once, it had a braided look to it and it stretched out from like 2-3 inches thick down to about 1 inch, probably got 10 feet longer. Don't know if it was called a Masterpull or not, but itlooked like rope. Never seen them before and never seen them for sale anywhere.

I carry three 30 ft. by 4 in. straps everywhere I go. Mainly used to pull shrubs and small trees out so I am not digging all day, works great!
