hey guys, I got the suburban home from idaho this spring break. (in the words of my dad's buddy: "you can be off chasing *****, but here you are, *****ing around with a blown up suburban" :hihi:)

a little back story before we start: last fall, I bought via craigslist, a 94 C2500 (HD) gmc diesel suburban with 300K miles destined for salvage (it was in process of a craigslist style part-out, but I caught it early.) it died because of a oil cooler line failure. it is in fine shape, no rust (originally from texas, and as patrick will tell you, Idaho doesnt have salt issues) and a nice, straight body, from factory in my favorite color (white) and it has a blue cloth interior, front heat, and f&r a/c 3.73s and a G80. clean title too.

after seeing it with my own eyes, I saw uncovered trans cooler lines, (radiator was pulled, but ended up going with sub, it didnt get a chance to sell) and with possibly 300K miles on the trans, I figure it needs changed as well.

the donor rig is a 1995 C2500(HD) RCLB Chevy 6.5L 4l80E 2wd. it has about 125K miles. it fires up and runs great, and has mangled oil cooler lines that it was a miracle they didnt blow on the way home. I soft pedaled it the whole way, it made it. anyways, no blowby at all, was a farm truck with no gooseneck ball, and nice perky springs, so I feel it wasnt worked too hard. it has rust, no a/c, and I like my pickups with a manual, so it was destined for donor duty (its 800 dollar purchase price added to the destiny)

so, after a long winded explination, I must ask you folks:
Before I tear into it, and find out unexpectedly, I must ask you knowledgeable folks:

will there be any issue dropping the 95 engine and trans into the 94 suburban? will I need to find a 94 pump? (I have heard talk of year specific pumps here lately, so that is why I ask) and last I heard, the two breaks in 4l80e were 91-95, and 96+ so am I ok on the trans?
other than that, is there any bracket or accessory changes between a truck and a burb?

also, what should I do while it is out? is the 4L80E good for near 20K combination, or is a transgo kit in my future (159 from Kennedy) should ARPs be done, or if I plan on just a K47, fluidampr, and a 4inch exhaust, do I need a set?

If the 94 has a 5068 IP you'll want to swap the ECM out of the 95 with it. Other than that I don't see much in the way of issues. If your going to tow heavy I'd certainly consider the ARPs

where is the cheapest place to get genuine ARP headstuds and mainstuds? any vendors selling them? also, do I need to roll fresh mains in, or just pull the bolts and put in the studs? would I be a fool to not put a fresh set of head gaskets in when doing head studs?

Pull the oil pan 1st to see that you aren't wasting time and money on a dead horse. Head gaskets, head studs, injectors, HO water pump, belt tensioner, paint your favorite color, new motor and tranny mounts, oil cooler kit,and new bosch glow plugs.
I've never done main studs, Head studs from summit racing[130 something] 97 HO water pump[$46] and gaskets from rockauto. The Right Stuff RTV from local parts store[oil pan and valve covers]

This is my list when I replace mine. Regardless of source for the motor. You'll never have a better opportunity to make sure it is as right as you can make it without having to pull it out. Better on an engine stand than standing on the bumper foot holds, er, nostrils bent over in positions that would make a Yoga instructor squirm.

The transmissions may take more research on your part. Lots of redheaded stepchild's out there with 'updated plugs' and years that were not compatible. PWM OD and other electronics are the biggest change in the years that will not work in other years. At 125K on a automatic transmission I would have it freshened up before use. I don't see a win here esp as the OD gears wear hard on the earlier 4l80e's and require frequent replacement during a rebuild. Esp if the sprag or bearing goes through them...

There is no accessory bracket changes in those years.
