going to pick up my engine for my 94 cc dually 4x4 today, finally!!!!!!!!!! any special things to keep an eye on while i swap it? all i know about it is that it was running with no noise and no smoke. going to just regasket it and swap it out. i didnt hear or see it run, i saved it from getting crushed along with the burb it was in that got totalled in wreck.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Check the main webs for cracks. You may have a boat anchor. If the block checks out I'd put ARP head studs in. TTY bolts aren't worth scrap price if you ask me.

Not sure if a compression test would identify the cracks in the heads. I never did a compression test on mine, the cylinder walls were in excellent condition, but heads had major cracks. Was noted to only have 90ish K on it tho, so it was still a baby... If you dont mind me askin' how much you payin'? Mileage?

My 599 ran great with dry cracks. Every cylinder was cracked between the valves. I even had a couple of seats that had cracks in them. The engines can run under much less than ideal circumstances.

im thinking bout just putting gaskets in it and dropping it in, then i can spend the money on the one i pull out. just to have something with some pulling power again.

For the time it takes to pull an engine...
Head studs are optional but save you lots of TTY head bolts and hold under turned up power.
Check the timing chain and replace as needed.
You want to pull the heads and see what you got. I would not run cracked heads - use the 6.2 heads if you have to with the 6.5 turbo setup - I do because I am cheap at times.
You may think about a new ring set as the rings are just about the only wear item you will find.
Replace or rebuild the injectors - the most blown up engine I have was from a bad injector...

anyone have a recomendation as to where i can get the best rebuild kit for the best price. im not a big internet person so i usually only look at work.
