hub/bearing Q for my 94 K3500

If I take the nut lose is everything suppose to move around or is the bearing/hub going bad? One side I take that nut lose on the end of the CV joint in the center of the hub very little movement, other side a bunch of movement. Tighten the nut, no movement at all. What side is broke?
I hope that my post makes seance, I cant seem to spell or word anything right today :eek:
 
You should have virtually no movement in the hub assembly with or without the axleshaft nut removed, your loose one definately needs to be replaced. Does it make noise while driving?
 
No noise. I actually had a slight noise from the tight side.. found that to be just mud.. The rotor/hub are pressed together on my dually, right or wrong? It is best to do hubs in pairs or is that old fashion way of thinking? Not use to these "new" hub assembly trucks
 
The rotor has another set of "lug nuts". It un bolts just like a tire/wheel from the hub/bearing assm. Then there are four bolts in behind the spindle where the axle shaft goes through. It can take some perswaysion sometimes to get the hub/bearing assm out. Sorry my sp aint much better.
Personal experience is If you do one the other will soon follow.(2-3 months maybe)

If you use firefox it has built in instant spell check and it is free. That is the #1 reason I use firefox. Without it I would miss spell more words than I can count.
 
IIRC your truck is set up thusly:

The extension/dually adapter is bolted on using what would be the wheel studs on a SRW truck. Then the rotor/hub assembly is unbolted from the knuckle with the 4 bolts referred to above, then the wheel/adapter/extension studs are driven out and the rotor separated from the hub.

Yep no movement, hub is junk, Dangerous. Once that completely separates the only thing holds your wheel on is the rotor and the axle. The axle will snap soon, then its just the rotor...

It has another set of lug nuts is right. Comes off just like a tire.... yeah, one that has been welded together and dropped to the bottom of the ocean for 20 years...

Get your torches ready/refilled. I neversiezed the piss out of it on re-assembly.

I also only did one side, as it was big beans... And I'm starting to not trust replacement parts lately as everything being made so cheap.
 
Don't use the cheap beating, Use the Timken. The chinese ones are junk. Get ready to cough a lung. IIRC for my K3500 the Timkens were like 350$ a piece. Too bad I didn't save the old ones, there was nothing wrong with them but I replaced them because I beat the shit out of the rotor with a 20 lbs sledge to get them off(the rotors were junk anyway). It's a lousy job the first time around. I so liked the old Straight axles better.
