Hello everyone. Well I'm trying to install a block heater in my 6.2 84 suburban. I've managed to poke a hole in the plug but can't seem to pry it out. I read somewhere that I could use a hacksaw blade and cut from my hole to the block and that might break it loose. But I'm not sure if that'll hurt anything or not. Also would it hurt to use some penetrating spray (I think it's for rusty bolts)?

take a very blunt punch and drive one side of the freeze plug in. It usually will turn sideways and then get ahold of it with vicegrips and yank it out

Thanks for the help. It finally came out after a couple hours of poking banging and prying. Actually the blunt punch is what did the trick.

As far as the block heater goes, is it used to heat the water which in turn heats the motor and the oil, making the engine easier to start in cold weather? I was just wondering the purpose of the thing.

Yup! Or to replace a leaky or rusty freeze plug instead of replacing the frost plug.
