To finish up my part out I want to yank the engine out of my truck... tranny as well. Is it easier to pull as one unit? pull engine only then tranny? the truck is outside, and I have an engine hoist, but I've never pulled an engine before, so I'm not sure of how to go about this. I have the engine mounts unbolted and the tranny unbolted from the crossmember, front driveshaft gone, rear driveshaft gone, all accessories off the engine, rad. gone... how many bolts hold the engine to the tranny? are they hard to get to?. Any help from the pros?

Do you have the front clip off? If you do or can at least pull the core support out then you can get it all in one shot for sure.. I think there are 6 bolts if I remember right.. not horrible to get, but not fun either..

The front clip is off... but the bumper is not, and it doesnt want to come off... PO hit a car and bent it in just a hair, and jammed the bumper all up... i can't remove the core support without the bumper off i dont think... the hood is off

I pulled the engine/tranny/transfercase all as one unit out of a 93 that i junked. I have a home made engine hoist that lifts very high. A leveler is a must have. You need a strong hoist to lift as one[1400 lbs or more]. If the fenders are off there are only 2 bolts that hold the core support to the frame. The bumper doesn't have to come off.

I used the bucket of my backhoe to set my engine/tranny/transfer case back in my sub after the frame swap from PO's meeting with a tree after tipping the bottle.

I've pulled a number of engines out in my day and never liked doing it all at once. I guess being so heavy and all it just felt wrong. It works if your lift goes high enough and you let the air out of your front tires...but I prefere engine only, then drop the rest on a jack. Of course this is just my take on it. Good luck!!
