How to install precups?

Do you install precups using a deadblow hammer or using a shop press? Seems to me a shop press would be better but I don't have $250 bucks for one...

A hammer does just fine, they should protrude from the head a few thos' when done...

I was told that if you use a hammer to install precups instead of a shop press that the precups will go in sideways and pop gaskets.... Is this true or not? does using a shop press really keep the cup from going in sideways?

A solid dead blow for installing them, a brass rod for knocking them out is the norm for me...

The cup will have a bump on the side that mates in a slot in the head, never heard of one twisting in the head, they should protrude above the head surface when done right for a "squeeze" effect on the cup when the head is torqued down...
