When I bought the truck, the pipe that connects the drivers side exhaust to the passenger side(is this the cross over?) looked shinny and new. I'd like to find out if it is the stock or better aftermarket, but not sure how. I'd like to do the same with the down pipe. Do I just measure the outside diameter? How do I know its got the bigger stronger collector part(where the two chambers meet)?

If the crossover is shiny its aftermarket, but just check to see if it is mandrel bent, or are the corners of it pleated? If you see the downpipe and its not smashed up then its aftermarket.

For the DP, it is actually pinched but you won't be able to see it. The best way is to see if your hand can go in from the bottom between the DP and the engine block to get to the GP #8. If you can put your hand including the wrist, then it is stock. Otherwise, you can but you can only put your finger in.

My DaHooooley has the Banks exhaust system and the #8 GP is a tad tedious to get the hand in there.

I can do it but its takes patience and a few twists and turns.
I have to lay on my back and use my left hand to sneek up into the area

The 94 Burb has a stock pipe and it is easier to get into the GP for sure.
The pipe though is not mashed at all just a bit smaller.

The aftermarlet Xover pipes will not have the wrinkles in the corners.

ok thanks, but how do I know if it's mandrel bent? Will it have creases inside or not? Not sure what mandrel bent is

I have never figured out why the fools at GM made the xover pipes with all those wrinkles.

Goes totally against good airflow technology.

And those downpipes that look like they were ran over by a fork lift. OMG "What were they thinking" ??????????????????//

ok so if my pipes look like they have creases then they are stock, if they are smooth then aftermarket?

which pipe is the most important to replace? Which one has the 2 chambers where one is known to collapse?

ok so if my pipes look like they have creases then they are stock, Yes, if they are smooth then aftermarket? Yes

which pipe is the most important to replace?

The one that goes from your turbo down and out to the rear of the truck, first then the one below.

That pipe will be the one that hooks your exhaust manifolds together from one side of your engine to the other.
