So, when is it too cold to ride?

As a young man, riding in 10 F weather was a grin and bear it deal.

So far, I've been out in 30F with just a heavy jacket and jeans. The glove situtation was a little lacking.

I plan on riding at least one day every month of the year.

If it hasn't snowed (roads been salted) I will ride until it does. Temp ony impacts the length of the ride and number of coffee stops. lol

Once salt hits the road - she sits until a good rain washes it away.

No snow or ice around here, but it's supposed to be in the mid-low 30's tomorrow morning. That's pretty damn cold and about my limit. Hell, anything under 60 is cold to me.

I look like the Michelin man with pants, a fleece jacket, my textile jacket and gloves on. Only bad part is the damn visor fogs up no matter what I put on it and I have to keep it cracked open which freezes my pretty face

Pesonal record. 38 miles at 19*f indicated. Pretty chilly.

Rode last night. 55*F when we left, 38*f on the ride back. 116 mile round trip.

Cold is an opinion, and in 6 months we'll be bitching about the heat.

Tim

20 is usually my limit but there is what they call the frozen buns ride on Jan 1st, temp indicates what is ridden. 19degs = 19 miles and so forth but it is 35 miles down there and the same back.

It was down to the lower 40's last week & I was still cruisin..........lots of fog here lately, and on these roads, that just aint too safe, and since diesel has dropped so much, driving the truck isn't cost in me so much $............

So, Last Sunday we went for a short ride.

Temp was 10F, roads were clear and dry.

Rode ten miles, my gloves aren't adequate for that temperature. The brakes also dragging some.

Got a few strange looks and a couple thumbs up  as we rode around town.

We (wife and I) rode last Saturday, it was 28 when we left the house for our ride.

We rode again Sunday, a whole lot warmer, 59 degrees:smile5:

I laughed when I read this thread, cause I know I once rode in minus 14c weather, In farenheit that's 6.8 degrees. I had an electric vest and dressed like the Michelin man

Chucked a bike down the road once due to "black ice" hanging around in a shaded corner.

Now I don't ride below 5 celcius or if it was below freezing the night before.

Not because it's too cold, but because dumping a bike is expensive.

Well, I also don't heal as fast as I used to.....:rolleyes5:

coldest i ridden was 25F on the highway, definetly needed some better cold weather gear!! will find out how cold i'm willing to ride this winter

I went to a dance in a town 20 miles away, it was nice when I got there but when I left at 1:00 a.M. there was frost on the bike. The leather jacket wasn't cutting it.

I can get that, I only rode cause the roads were bare and dry. Plus I had to get an axe as ours broke and we needed one as we were camping. Had it been wet or snow I would have taken the truck.
