the hubs on my 90 honda fourtrax 300 are splined onto the rear axle and the one on the right the splines are stripped in the hub, i can try replacing the hub but the splines on the axle are about half worn down. what im wondering is can i drill a hole in it and just put like a grade 8 bolt threw it? the whole thing is replaceable but im not sure how hard it is since it is a sold axle that goes threw the rear drum break and the rear gear box.

got any ideas

Did you fix it yet? The axle splines are pretty tough and don't normally strip. They may look like it because they aren't cut very deep to begin with. The hub splines are designed as a softer metal so they will give first. 95% of the time a new hub will fix it but I have had to weld a few as a last resort. If the axle splines are stripped, it is ruined anyways so you have nothing to lose. Just be sure that the hub is square to the axle before welding it. Some of those axles only come out of carrier in one direction so depending on the side, it is a good idea to replace the bearings and seals before you weld the hub because once you weld it, you have to cut the axle off to service it.

my dad was a very kind guy and bought the parts for me so i am waiting on a new axle and hubs, only cost about $240, its the familys fourwheeler (also he doesnt want to have to snow blow untill i can get the money for the parts we use it to plowwith) the axle is toast. i was going to try drilling it but it would have been very sloppy they where both so worn
