So I'm on my way with the 97' to vegas and thought it would be nice to go through yellowstone park on the way down. I get about an hour or so south of gardiner and am puttering along the highway(30 mph) in drive as it's not a very fast road to be driving on and O/D was pointless. All of a sudden I get a power loss from nowhere. No warning, nothing. It still idles fine and will rev up to 1100rpm. Whip out the phone to call AAA. No service. Damn!!
Oh well I'll just keep going along slowly as there is supposed to be a campground/service station in a dozen miles or so.
Finally get there thinking I'll use the phone and AAA will be here shortly.
Well it turns out some other company has exclusivity with yellowstone for towing and AAA can't come into the park to get me.:mad2:
I talk to the guy on site as he has two wreckers and a flat bed sitting there doing nothing.
Well to tow me the 50-55 miles to the south end of the park boundary he wants $520.
That's okay, I'll just keep motoring along at 15 miles an hour and get out myself. Didn't even ask him to look at my truck at that point for fear of an impending heart attack when I find out a diagnostic scan would be $300.
There was a payphone not to far from there, but a working payphone apparently that was too much to ask.):h
I had to take the long way out of the park as there was bridge construction on the shortcut. (Why not?)
Thinking there would be a phone somewhere, mistakenly, I kept heading south towards Jackson Hole, where I'm at tonight. I didn't get reception on my phone till I was 33 miles from Jackson, at that point...
My first thought was my gas pedal assembly, but I'm thinking when I almost ran my tank dry right before I left home, I may have plugged my filter. Don't know why it would get 700 miles from home before acting up though.
I'm at the super 8 right beside the napa, so I will be up at 8 to buy a fuel filter and then a code reader. If this repair is beyond my abilities there is a diesel shop about 6 blocks from here.
Have an appt in vegas for tuesday that I cant miss.:drama:
