Todd -

This post describes the procedure and the results:

Any of our trucks that use ECM's (built after 94) have this option. It's just not hard-wired in. The instructions above tell you how to install the wiring part of the option so that the PTO circuit is now live. What you're doing is installing the PTO idle control.

OBD-I vehicles have only one PTO speed - approx 1100 rpm. OBD-II vehicles have two PTO idle speeds - 975rpm and 1150rpm.

When you energize the circuit, the engine immediately goes to the selected PTO idle speed. Some guys here have said that on their OBD-I vehicles, when they hit the brake pedal or take the vehicle out of Park, the engine speed goes back to curb idle. My truck doesn't do that. As long as that circuit is energized, the engine idles at 1100 rpm. I still have control of engine speed through the throttle pedal, but idle never drops below 1100 rpm, until I shut off the circuit.

I'm glad I did it. It's a practical and useful mod that costs less than $10 to do. Plan on a Saturday morning; it took me about an hour-and-a-half to get everything done the way I wanted it. (Course, that doesn't factor in time for parts/beer runs, tool hunts, etc.)

there is a 3rd speed on OBDII but not many ever use it,, Who needs a 1600RPM???

I love mine on my 94, fire it up in the cold Michigan mornings,, let here run for a minute or so,, then hit the switch, turn on the defrosters on high, and go in the house. In about 10 mins, shes hot, defrosted and ready to run!

Now go get a switch, some wire, some beer and get-er-done!

You're right! I forgot about that 3rd idle speed. Yeah, 1600rpm on a cold morning would sound a little scary....

Here in east Tx, we only have a few mornings where it's seriously cold (below 20). I don't use the switch a lot, but it sure is handy to have it when I need it. Another advantage of computer controlled engines!

X2 on the beer! :D :D

Thanks!! That's the site I was looking for. I kept looking at Kennedy Engineering. Brain freeze, I guess.

i dont recommend this and im inserting a disclaimer here<<<<

you should be able to set high idle by siwtching the transfer case into neutral, the engine into drive and going above "30mph" and using the cruise control...

i would just wire in the switch though.
