hey guys, i got invited to come over from another website, gmguy thought you could help me better. i have a 94 6.5t had an oil line come off rolling down the highway about 75 mph didnt get it shut down in time. after it warms up for a couple minutes rod starts knocking violently. i found a 95 non turbo engine, can i swap that into my truck and even possibly use my turbo if i crank down my turbo master? i am kind of short on cash at the moment (single dad) i just want to get it back on the road asap i can live without my truck. thank you all ahead of time and i hope i can lend some help to you as well..

thanks ace, i heard you were here. i guess you saw i blew her up. almost it still runs but i dont dare try, block is still good so i can go through it later.

I have not been over there as much. This is my main hang out. Besides Mikey gets annoying after awhile. I can only take some much of him.

unfortunately! he seems very knowledgable. i just have "the luck" in common with him. oh well im too old to cry, just gotta keep pluggin away. i picked up a side job yesterday restoring a 68 RUSTang so that can fund my truck now.

Welcome. If the 95 6.5n/a was set up with a mechanicalinjection pump you may have to swap the timing gear on the crankshaft and the balancer.

Welcome Scott. Glad you have an economical solution to the issue and a means of funding it. 68 mustang restoration sounds cool.

Good luck on the swap and good on ya for being there for the kids.

Paul

ok you have to be patient with me this is my first diesel. now if the 95 6.5 n/a is mechanical, can i swap all of my electric over? ip, pmd, etc...? i have a brand new relocated pmd and heat sinc only been ran for 1 week. if i can basically swap everything from my 94 onto the 95 "long block it should work fine? turn my turbo master down a little and rock and roll. then i can rebiuld my 94 and really get what im looking for oiut of this truck. i was getting close to being happy with it except for fuel mileage it was around 12mpg. which was about the same as my old bbc crew cab 1 ton dually.

it was alittle difficult at first but, im gettin the hang of it. married for 15 years to being mr. dad. hey its cool he helps me alot, and he is going to steal my truck when he turnd 16 so. he is learning about it with me.

Welcome here Scott. Glad you found the top 6.5 site anywhere!

Oh yeah... forgot, Mikey only SEEMS knowledgable...:D

i am super impressed so far i was over there for a while and never got many replies. but ace is here so im good, he was my main source of info over there. i think i will like it here. mike did help me alot too though. oh well new day.

still 300 miles, but still same state!

guys, I was wondering something ever since scott mentioned 6.2s and NA 6.5s.

Is there any piston difference between 6.5 na and turbo?

And which, if any, 6.2L heads can be used in a 6.5L turbo application?

Welcome to the site. Glad to have you here.

There are many people here that have 6.2 / 6.5 hybrids and 6.5 n/a exchanges. A lot of the 6.5 military engines were n/a. I have never saw a separate part number for N/A pistons in a 6.5. SO I am not 100 percent sure there isn't but gm being how they are probably made the same piston for all the 6.5 engines to save money. This has been there M/O for a long time.

I have been running a 6.2 long block (80's vintage 140 block) for a while now and have a turbo and chip, no damage yet, and I have towed heavy, a few times. I did enlarge the oil cooler line passages in the 6.2 block from 3/8 to 1/2, most forget to do this little mod. Picked that up from (DR Lee) way back at the page. If you have any questions ask, someone will have the answer. Once again welcome
