Hi Everyone

Welcome @maxgb tuning is something very few get into mainly due to our Gobment. there are lots of options available, but it all depends on how your local state handles it with vehicle inspections. some areas don't care, and others won't allow any alterations outside of how it came from the factory.

depending on what your working on, there are a couple of good routes you can go. EZ-TCI makes a fully tunable trans controller when you are running an engine that doesn't need a computer or if the engine and trans electronics can be separated. Holley terminator is also another route lots of guys run on the newer LS and Hemi engines, will also work on others too.

as far as altering the tuning in OEM computers, that is stepping into some grey areas lots of folks seem to steer clear of.

Welcome to the forum @maxgb
You being from down under, I imagine that refers to Australia.
Not knowing what the govt there allows, or dont allow as far as turning up an ECM.
I also am not sure about what is allowed over here.
Seems th ppl ere was some sort of a court battle and the govt and EPA had to back up a bunch.
I just hope the suit went deep enough that they have to pay back the money they stole from those that was modifying for performance and fuel mileage.

No. None of the shops are getting money back. And the epa will continue to fine shops that do it. They can still come after individuals that do it.
What they were limited on in the case is very minor.
And there are other governing bodies that can chase them and you down as well.

Still play nice and don’t teach people to defeat emissions stuff. I try to be very clear and make sure people know when I am telling them to unbolt the cat it is for testing and diagnostic purposes only. Thats why the pipe that gets bolted in place of a cat and or muffler is called a test pipe- you are testing and once testing is finished will put the test pipe on the shelf and reinstall the proper equipment that was temporarily placed on the shelf.
Save the spotted tree whales😉

Hi Max! Tuning a transmission- can ya be more specific as to what you are doing or are after?
Are you a pro mechanic and just work on trucks? Specifically what kind of treucka and what transmissions?
sometimes we have guys popmin here with class 8 tractor trailer trucks that are looking for help and there is a big difference in an 18 speed behind a series 60 detroit and a 4L80E behind a v8 light duty pickup.
Both Can get “tuned” …
