Pretty cold here right now hoovering around zero...I know not as cold as our friends up north in the frozen tundra, but cold here for us in the corruption capitol ILL.

The Tahoe has been behaving very well, especially being as though I have not fixed my block heater yet...just call me the king of procrastination.

This morning it was a tad below zero & it started right off, but quite so I had to start it a 2nd time & give it a tad of persuasion with the go pedal & all seemed fine.

On my 50 mile trip into work this morning, some butt-hole cut me off, so after I had a clearing in traffic I laid the hammer down & as soon as the RPM's hit 2700 or so the motor promptly fell flat on it's face, stumbling & carrying on like it was starved for fuel. Well needless to say with 20 miles left in my morning commute that skeerd the chit out of me, wondering if I had a case of gelling fuel or what ever else could be looming in my horizon.

I just took it easy kept the RPM's in check under 2K & all was fine arrived at work safe & sound & on time.

Being as though my Tahoe is a 1995 as soon as I got to work, I promptly shut off the engine, placed my gear shifter into drive & turned the ignition switch to the start position...yup wouldn't ya know it, no purr, no lovely LP sound not a murmur nutta nuttin. Well fudge...why does everything have to chit the bed on the coldest friggin days :???: :mad2::mad2:

Made it home no issues nursed it along again keeping the RPM's under 2K. Got home climbed under neath it & lady luck was with me, one of the wires had come out of one of the splice butt connectors that the PO must have installed easy 2 minute fix.

Sorry for the length of the post, bottom line air it out once in a while listen to what yr truck is saying...sometimes it might just save ya some cash or in this case an IP.

B/r all :)
Greg

My lp is either dying or done dying. And welcome to cold weather everything seems to die in the cold weather.

I was going to say before I finished reading that I know I put a new ac delco ops on it. Best to use butt splices with the heat shrink on them in a location like that.

Could have been worse Greg... If it was a Dmax and you romped on it in those temps it would have thrown it into limp. Then with no way to reset the code you would have been stuck in 2nd gear at 22 mph for the rest of the ride... Ask me how I know about that... I carry my code reader at all times now.

For sure Mike it could have been much worst. I actually thought about that this morning...that would have sucked!

The Tahoe has been very well behaved the last 2 months...no complaints.

I really thought sharing this story may provide some insight for some of our less seasoned members, not that I'm a veteran by any means. Not that all LP failures will respond the same for everyone. I have now experienced 2 LP failures both with with very similar responses. Fairly normal operation until high RPM is attempted under load. Neither failure produced a Check Engine light...kind of makes ya wonder why not, being as though operating without the LP for extended periods of time would surely pay it's price on the IP.

Fuel supply pressure, might just be the next in cab gauge to place on my list of things to install...

Oh and one other thing, with the friggin price of the fuel :mad2: I don't often run mine much over 2K rpms anymore...as a matter of fact I intentionally try to keep it under 2K to save fuel

What is the deal, its 26* here tonight. Too cold! It Feb allready its supposed to be warmer than this. Good thing global warming is here.
Ya'll should bypass your stock LP's.

26 cold??:???: it was colder than-26 wind chill here today.:WTF: Yea, I'm waiting for global warming.:agreed:

Dont put off the OPS relay mod too long, I fixed this drawing up a little. Its a must do, and adding WTS priming is good. The failures is also why I always recommend the Walbro or something else. I think the FP953, the Cummins replacement pump from Delphi would be great with some good fitting adapters.

It was a comfortable 21* this morning when we got out of the aircraft, C130. But that was the ground temps and we were at 18,000' where it was a little cooler. Add to that the 125 mph windchill and it was positively brisk. Glad it only lasted a little less than a minute but it puts things in perspective. Sure am thankful for a truck that is simple to operate and maintain, even if some of the issues are complex but that's were you guys come in. Greg, I'm happy for you it was a simple if temp fix until warmer weather prevails.

I don't know how you guys do it? Below about 60 and I am miserable and my fingers quit working.

My 96 should still run (OBDII)......even when I jump the "G" pin under the hood at the fuse box harness, still NG.

2nd gear limpmode is a toughy.... I also would carry a code reader with me at all times if my truck did that. Thats just silly.

Personally, I don't want the added relay to complicate it even more. I rewired my 94 k3500 so the fuel pump is on with the key. I eliminated the ops having anything to do with the lift pump. I used the pink wire going to the fuel heater as the trigger for the stock relay.

That would also work if you dont want the "safety" of the LP turning off in a accident or rollover that kills the engine but not the ignition and cuts a fuel line. Diesel fuel isnt going to explode, but if there is a fire then it will make the fire bigger.

Going off the ignition will also get you the priming function and no need to have any other test switches to run the LP to bleed it or whatever.
