I am replacing my number 8 piston in my block. I got another piston from Rich. When i took it out i marked all of the rings so i could put them in the exact same spot when they go back in on the new piston. But the two top metal compression rings openings are very close, almost right on top of each other. My manual says they should be 180 degrees off. I was told to put them back in the exact same way they came out. What should i do, just leave it? Wouldnt i have a lot of blowby? Do the rings rotate on the piston head as it goes up and down? Thanks for your help!!

With the miles you have, I would not worry too much. Put the top ring the way it was and rotate the lower one 180. The top ring creates the most wear anyway. My opinion--

This is not my 205k mile block, this is my new engine that has about 90k on it. Sorry i didnt specify...

Who knows. Maybe someone put it together that way. You are getting overly concerned, it's not going to cause any harm. If you are trying to get the rings to ride exactly where they were, it ain't gonna happen anyway.

K thanks i will go out right now and rotate the bottom ring 180 degrees, and put the piston back in the block. thank you for your help!!!!
