i just got through painting my bumper black to match the truck, it was mint and in the last few minutes of drying and a nice big gust of wind came and put some sand all in the clear.

what do i do now to get it out, i am afraid to wet sand it and scratch the shizzle out if the nice new clear. please advise the best course of action. i could also clay it??????????

Man thats not good.Your best bet would be to just let it cure out and then maybe you could denib it.I really doubt that the clay bar will help any.We have that happen ever now and then and if it cant be sanded out,its got to be re painted. Is it just a few spots or is it covered?

just a little grain here and there. not real bad. probably would sand out, just scared to do it.

how long do i have to wait before wetsand? it has been along time since i painted anything the right way:)

First let me say that I am no paint guru but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn express. I used to help my cousin in the summer, he could paint a big rig outside darn near flawless. He had amazing talent that was wasted to say the least, crack kills. Give it at least 72 hours to harden. Was it still wet or was there some curing time? A clay bar would be useless for this, it is for surface contaminants on a cured coat. It all depends how deep the particles are embedded. If you can wet sand it with 2000 grit and remove the particles it more than likely will not show especially if you follow up with a scratch removing compound and then a machine glaze. Ahhh...the joys of backyard painting. I had this happen to some step bars for one of my 4X4's. I had just put the gun down when a gust from a approaching storm came out of nowhere, Wishing you luck but I had to sand it down and just about start over. That black is unforgiving when it comes to flaws.

it had been almost dry i think. some of the particle will blow off if i blow them hard enough with my mouth. i am going to let it dry some more and hit it with the air hose blow gun before i sand it. hopefully most of the stuff will come off.

Dont get too carried away with that blow gun.If its just a few spots here and there use some 2000 grit dipped in water then just sand in little x's over the spots needed. Then use some med grit compound over the area's sanded. Then go over the whole thing with some good polish.Kinda depends on what kind of clear you used to kno how long it would be till its cured but a day or 2 in the sun and warm weather should be plenty.Anything BLACK is a pita....including your bumper.

oh sorry guys been freeking going nuts here getting the truck ready for the memorial day parades. it all came out, i wet sanded it with 2000 real lightly, rinsed it and repeated about 3 times, then did a good sanding to smooth it out nice. i had 3 good coats of clear on it so it should be mint. there still is some mini divits where some of the sand particles where but i just flat did not have enough time to spray it again. another 2-3 coats would fill it in nicely. maybe in the fall when i put all my plow wiring back on. i will post pics on sunday or monday once i get it all cleaned up and parade prepped with the flags and such. looks real nice all black.

i also an having a new cover for my stack piping made and am going to black that out also. i want to only have a few subtle chrome accents on the truck. cant wait to get the moto metals. i hope for my b-day:) hint hint hint if you read this hunny:D

Glad you got it worked out. Mine will be painted white soon to match the truck and leaving all of the plastic black as with the rest of the truck. I was going to paint the lower air dam but decided to look for one in a salvage yard instead. I can't seem to find the extra time for all of the little projects I have so the heck with it I am just going to bring it somewhere and have it all done. Waiting to see those pics.....

i was going to paint the plastics on the bumper but once it got together i kinda like it better broken up a bit. if i had time to smooth them all i would do it in a heart beat, but 24 hrs in a day..... pics hopefully sunday. i had the flags on last night and i hope it is a little windy sunday for some really nice shots. i get all gay and gitty when i get to show my pride for our old glory.
