Right before Christmas the SES light came on for about 2 miles on the highway then went off. Then just a few days ago my wife said it came on again for just a few miles and then went off. She was on the highway as well. Both times the wind was blowing 30 mph or more. A light drifting snow was falling and the temp was in the lower teens. SUV is driven only in bad weather since it has 4 wheel drive and a tank of fuel lasts about 2 to 3 weeks. Other than that the SUV starts just fine, idles fine, and accelerates fine. Just listing the driving conditions. The 2 codes are:

34: Injection Timing Stepper Motor Fault
41: Brake Switch Circuit Fault

Any ideas on what these mean and how to handle them? Also to clear the codes do you just unhook the batteries or is there another method? Thanks.

checked and cleaned grounds? brake switches do go bad, however I would check connectors and shape they are in- 4 pin on motor and 15 pin on main. If you want to test stepper motor, go to pcm, find pink 24 pin connector, with release on left and 2 inset guides on right(iffy description) pin a1 on top left and b1 top right. Test a8 and a9 and also a10 and a11 for values between 10 and 60 ohms. stepper motor issue may have hard start and poor performance.

how many miles, service done to IP, fuel filter, additives??
