I was browsing around Heath's site the other day, and holy his prices have gone up. I was thinking of maybe getting a reflash, but there is no way I am spending 800 bucks on an ECM. I also noticed there is no core charge anymore, what is up with that?

He's still taking core's = $300.00

From HDP;

"The Max E Tork PCM is offered on an exchange basis. A $300 pcm core deposit is assessed at the time of purchase. This pcm core deposit is refunded upon return of original, serviceable pcm core unit."

As was explained to me by Bill they were not always getting cores back so he was having to replenish his reflashes with new PCMs, some folks wanted to keep their cores as backup, so overall cost was going up with lack of returned cores, rather than build in a core offset at cost of new PCM making buyer lay out $1000 until core credit was refunded, he opted to meet in the middle $300 core built into the buy it price with a refund to the buyer if they chose to return the old PCM, and still that way have some $$$ to cover cost of a new PCM if he never got a PCM back from the buyer.

Just like so many of us in business, we have to try and make ends meet and still give good service.

The cost of keeping the doors open can make things a challenge at times.

I have done business with Heath on a few ocassions and been extremely happy with the product and the service.

Cost is only a small part of the equation IMHO if the product and service are marginal then the price means nothing.

There is always a kind word and the troops at Heath's take the time on the phone to take care of your questions.

Bottom line is, they have to make a profit.

Too bad the late stuff requires a total replace on the ECM instead of just a plug in chip.

Wonder why the factory did that manuever???? Can't be good for the end user me thinks.

Bill said something to me about about that too. I forget how he expained it but also there was something to do with issuing people core credit was costly but him "buying" your old core off you was cheaper. I don't remember why.

I'm also a big fan of Heath Diesel, the way he runs it is once you buy something from him you can call any time, with any question, and they will patiently walk you through your problems. They are as good as it gets with customer service.

I wonder about the future of Heath. Will they ever move into selling parts for other engines? I know there are a lot of 6.5's, but as years go on there will be less and less, seems to me the sales volume has to go down unless they start selling other products. I'm just curious.
