Hearing my Turbo sing

Since I did my head gaskets I can now hear my Turbo. For the 8 years of owning this truck I could never hear it. Been in a number of other 6.5s and could hear theirs but not mine. It sounds as though it is spooling up correctly but thinking maybe there is a problem with the waste gate causing it. Any Ideas?

Check your clamps and make sure they are all tight and you have no leaks. I had the same thing happen to me the first time I changed my IP. Sounded good and made feel good but one of the clamps from the turbo to the upper intake was leaking boost.

Checked this AM and all is tight. Checked and got vacuum at the waste gate and it is free moving. Guess it is just something that happened for no reason. It does seem to have more power than before, but that might be the same seat of the pants feeling as having a louder exhaust.

Sounds to me like you put the wastegate actuater hoses swapped...check the vac lines going to the top of the intake. Swap them and see if that qiets your turbo down. It miight sound like more power but your truck actually cuts back fuel. If this is the case anyways... Let us know

99% sure that never happened. I had them marked and the lengths are different not allowing them to be hooked up to the wrong spots. I will double check though. Thanks.

No, but I should mention that the head I used were a used set of Re-man heads. I re-used my injectors and replaced the GPs. Not that that should matter. Hell, I never even put a new air filter in her, but I do have to replace it along with the Fuel filter.

Okay, I think I figured why the sound is being heard now and not before. Just before I did my heads, I did some body work which included changing the pass side fender. The fender had a snorkel in it from a gas job and my filter canister would not fit it correctly. While putting everything back together, my buddy removed the snorkel so the filter canister clipped into the fender better. Can't believe it took me a couple of weeks to remember this being done.

Thanks guys. I still feel a bit foolish for not remembering the change but I guess with me not having a hand in that part of the putting things back together is the reason. It does sound pretty nice.
