Wondering if anyone has seen this before I have to really tear into it.

I am getting a hard starting condition when first starting my truck. It should be hot enough out to not even need glow plugs. It has new Duraterms in it. Wireing not checked yet. It is like 100 degrees plus out. Perhaps the glows hit too early before the IP transfer pump is up to pressure?

LP wired to ign so always running. Pressure 6 PSI. (Got it that way and not motivated to mess with it yet.)

When spun over it will hit on one or two and then stall or kick the starter out. Adding throttle will start the engine no questions asked. I hate to rev it like that as it hits 1200 RPM or so when you step on it. This problem has started in the last 30 days after the engine was put in. So did start fine before.

It will start fine later and the rest of the day without being cranky.

New bat cables, good grounds, and the high end high speed starter. Injectors rebuilt and retested before going into this engine 4K ago.

The engine hitting and then not has the bendex being thrown out on the starter allowing it to free rev. :skep: This can't be good for the starter or the bolts.

Only thought I have is possible low idle? The idle drifts a bit low with the AC on.

Otherwise it runs fine. No, really, this one hits on all 8 unlike some other 6.5's of mine :rof:

I wonder if its getting a little air in it? Whats the idle rpm set at? Jumper the cold advance to see if it starts better, maybe the IP needs a touch more advance.

Even when its hot out with cold engine all my 6.5's like glow plugs, the 94 you wont crank, the 93 would with alot of cranking and the 92 will but takes 2-3 times as many revolutions to start.

The lift pump should have plenty of time to pressurize the fuel system, you may have a little leak letting air in after it sits all night. Put some clear gas line on the return from the IP, see if alot of air bubbles collects in the return when you first crank it. Mine usually always had a 0.5"-1.0" bubble that stayed at the top of the bend of the hose, but no bubbles coming in.

I had the same problem with mine it turned out to be that the start was dragging a bit and would turn over quite fast enough.Only had a problem with cold starts.rest of the day would do fine

I am sending the starter in for warranty now as the bendex is not grabbing the teeth and spinning the engine now. Powermaster 9052 less than 1 year old. Sure it outlived two engines...

Jegs is sending me a return label to cover shipping so I can exchange it. Also have a spare starter around...

Not sure if it was the starter or got damaged by hard starting or made it's issue worse with slow spinning. I'll tach crank RPM out later but before removal...

Old starter has 120/180 RPM Cold/Hot. The Powermaster spun faster...

Disconnected cold advance pump solenoid and it starts a lot better.
Figure I have it a little too far advanced.
