I am havinga similar problem. Went to start my 97 CHevy Suburban 6.5L turbo diesel, and wouldn't start had to put accelarter to the floor finally after some hard cranking it started but ideled and ran VERY rough with alot of white and blue smoke pouring out of tailpipe. What could be the problem have been told could be possilbe injection pump.

racin83 your problem is different and you need to fill out the cecklist and post your own thread we will help but the checklist is the best way to get help

So DieselSlug, do you think it is my engine that took a crap on me or what do u think it might be?

Racin83 welcome to the site, I moved your posts to an independent thread, we have found it is easier and more effective to trouble shoot 1 vehicle at a time in it's own thread.

You haven't provided enough information as of yet for us to effectively assisit you.

1st thing you need to do, go to the user CP button and update your signature with your truck information.

Following that copy/paste the diagnostic sheet filled in with as much information as you know about the situation, don't worry if some of this is new to you we'll walk you through it, we have a reasonably high success rate with getting member trucks up and running again.

racin83 Welcome to DTR!

If you run threw and post up the checklist on here we could help you out a lot better than little amount of information that you have provided us so far.

It is very hard to diagnose a problem while working on and in front of the truck much less over the internet. The checklist was made to assist both the truck owner and the individual attempting to assist over the internet.

Just stating that the truck is hard to start and smokes could be so many different things wrong that, without doing the checklist, could make it to were we could give you bad advice and have it to were you would be wasting money on parts that are not yet in need of being replaced.

The more assistance you give us the better off we are to get your vehicle back on the road quickly.

Also if you could please fill out your signature, it will help us help you.

Sounds like your glows aren't cycling or you have several burnt out. Does it run smoother after it warms up? Will it start better after warming up?

Try to do the 2] Fuel issues especially the lift pump test.

There is a description in the FAQ for that.

Also check where your PMD is located. The stock location is on the driver side of the Injector Pump slightly hidden underneath the intake.

Spend some time in the FAQ section to educate yourself. There is a picture that is provided there to learn more about the parts and their locations and the name also.

Thank you for all your help the truck is fixed it was injector timming issues. Also I bad injector pump, We also replaced the fuel filter. Just want to let all who helped that its now fixed and I thank you

If you had a mechanic or the stealership fix it you never know what was really wrong, but they always replace the IP. definately still do the LP checkout, get a $20 vac/fuel pressure guage and test it. It can cause premature IP death, or hard starting. It could have also just be your PMD and not the entire IP was iffy.
